Newbie from Maryland

Hello out there,

New to the site looking to purchase a used HHR in the next month.
What questions should I ask and what rocks should I look under for those hidden issues with this vehicle?
What kind of gas mileage do you REALLY get out of the vehicle???
Will be doing combined city/hwy driving (30%city---70% hwy).
Are the advertised estimates of 21/30 accurate??

Thanks for the feedback.

The first thing is to get a CARFAX report on anything you're considering, their reports might not be perfect at times, but you'll get a good basic history of the vehicle.

Decide whether an ex fleet vehicle is acceptable to you, they can make great values, but they can also have some of the more popular options missing.

Take your eventual choice to an independent mechanic if the seller will allow it, have it checked out paying particular attention to front suspension components. The sway bar end links and sway bar bushings are notorious causes of the "HHR clunk", not dangerous, just annoying at times.

Most of us here do better than the advertised mileage, sometimes spectacularly better, and sometimes spectacularly worse....a heavy right foot can drive your mileage into the teens.

I get an average of 27mpg in mixed driving with all three of mine, out on the interstate 33-35mpg is possible, in town it drops to the low 20's.

Good luck with your search, take your time and you'll be happy with your find, HHR's can get under your skin in a good way.
