(Soon to be) New HHR Owner!
(Soon to be) New HHR Owner!
Hello Everyone,
Well, if all goes well, I will be picking up my first HHR (otherwise Monday).
I was raised on Chevrolet's since my grandfather was a retired Chevrolet Master Mechanic. The vehicle I am trading in tomorrow is a 2005 Subaru Outback XT (Turbo). Before you fry your noodle thinking "why", it was primarily because I am into the outdoors (rock climbing, hiking, etc) and wanted a car (not a truck/SUV = poor mpg's) and the Subaru seemed to fit as GM had killed off most/all station wagon platforms. Hence my car before the Subaru was a 1994 Caprice Wagon (LT1) that I loved dearly. Once I reached 247,XXX miles, I decided to get something newer. It was a great car, I considered another now, before deciding on an HHR.
After relocating to the Charlotte, NC area in July 2011, I had no need for the AWD. Plus, the average mpg of 20-21 (IF I kept my foot out of the turbo
) was starting to get to my wallet. So, I started looking. I knew I wanted another Chevy because I am familiar with them, they are AMERICAN and, parts are available at the local parts store w/o "special ordering" them (as with the Subaru) or having to go to the dealer
After looking for a while and driving various models and colors (and ex-rentals) I found a nice 1-owner, non-rental, 2009 1LT, Flash Blue Metallic HHR. Honestly, the Cyber Gray was the color I wanted but, this one is GM certified, has been well taken care of and I can't pass on the deal I am getting.
So, that's me. I am a total gear-head.
In the past, I have been blessed with working for a High Performance company that modified Corvettes (Lingenfelter) as a Development Engineer (design, calibration, etc). THAT was a fun job
Also, for the last 5-6 years, I have been restoring a 1951 Nash Ambassador. Some of you that are old enough will know what that is. The one's that don't will ask "Who made it"
(My experience when trying to buy sparkplugs at AutoZone) So far, the engine is done, running in the car and the body is about 90% finished, just shy of painting. Hopefully I'll get paint on it this summer.
I look forward to meeting members here as well as enjoying the HHR and the community.

to the forum Stick74 from up the road a piece in Kannapolis.Hmmm, a '51 Ambassador, try asking about parts for a '37 Chevy Carryall Suburban.....yup, blank stares.
Once you get your Nash done, bring it on up to the Kannapolis Cruise In, we'll make some room next to our '67 SS 427 Convertible.
**Thanks Everyone**
I'll post pics as soon as I can
"ThatChevy" - I love TN! Planning to make a trip to Gatlinburg area to test out the Chevy asap
"843de" - Lol I bet! The Nash is a gift to my grandfather. I wanted a 38 Chevy but it was tough to find one that was within my price range and that hadn't had a 350 thrown in it
Thanks again everyone!
