Why is it that each of us is not smart enough to invest in oil? Why are we all so dumb......... I guess we do our part by greasing the wheels and buying the stuff. Record profits for all , if only we had invested..........

Speak for yourself

If you remember my discussion with a member who is now banned, I have taken advantage of this situation.

Long ago, a very successful person told me you can ***** about a situation, or you can take advantage of it. You can guess which one I did.

Oh, by the way, I'm not rich. But I am getting "richer" because of the stupidity of our government and most of the populus. And that is NOT a brag......maybe more like a stimulii...if I (who has slightly above average intelligence) can do it, so can others.

I think what makes it difficult for most people to take advantage of a situation like that is the upfront cost. The funds have to be in place and deployable otherwise it just can't be done.

Cool Snoop No disrespect at all . Perhaps you are not in the upper echelon, being invited to Getty events, but you did a smart thing. Good work

We should turn this thread into a how to invest in oil thread. Does one have to have a hundred grand to play? I would think perhaps an extra five - twenty grand could open the door. But still , that's not something we all have laying around. Funds are usually in play for other things and you need to have sacrificial funds to play the markets.

Again, good work. I wish more of us had done so.
Do I send you the cake

I'm no investment banker or broker or trader or anything but $20,000 or so would be a great place to start. In my opinion and from what I've been told, you'd want to place your money into an index fund (ie. USO or other such funds) which is usually comprised of a number of petroleum companies. You could try to get into commodity trading (ie. actually buying oil in the futures market) but I think you need substantial more money to get into that game because there are minimum amounts that you have to purchase.

Best bet is to talk to a professional.

Listen, this is your thread and I don't wish to turn it into an investment lesson BUT, you can do exactly what I did.

I don't know your financial situation and I do not know what is available to Canadians.

I know you have heard of mutual funds. There are many poor, good and excellent ones dedicated to the energy area. That's a good way to start....maybe for as little as $250. Also, individual stocks through discount brokers...I pay as little as $7.00 for a market trade to a much as $12.00 for a stop trade..no share limit.

Remember also, there are other related vehicles that you can invest in.......pipelines (which, IMO, are excellent) equipment suppliers, services, etc.

I'm willing to help ANYONE, so PM me if you are interested. BUT I WILL NOT GIVE SPECIFIC INVESTMENT INSTRUMENT RECOMMENDATIONS.
