personally i go back and forth between using the lasso and using quick mask. really depends on how tight i need the mask to be.

no offense man, but i have yet to see you cut a car out, let alone show me a real anything in photoshop that didnt come from a stock photo or from tire rack. when so many of us either do this for a living or play enough in our spare time that we know what we are doing, its very hard to not call you out. i've been nice and even tried to offer a few tips, but you really shouldnt come in to a p-shop thread with a curt dismissal, pretending like you are the end all be all graphics artist.

I've been doin this for over ten years and while I am certainly more knowledgable than most, I do not even pretend to know all that there is about photoshop.

change the color on a set of wheels without painting over it with a crayon. tint a set of windows without blacking them out with a paintbrush because it looks more realistic when you can still see a little bit of the cars interior. show me a color change you did that you didnt cut and paste two cars from tirerack together and it'll be "real good for a start"

Want to really impress me? mimic either one of the two pics below. I even posted the original of my firebird so you can see the before and after.

AAAAARRRRGGGGG!!!!!!!

I can not figure out layers and how to take an image and put it into another pic!

I guess I'm gonna have to actually LEARN this and quit futzing around.

Like they used to say "reading is fundemental"!

once you have the area selected, hit ctrl_c to copy it and then ctrl-v to paste. this will paste the selected image in a new layer on top of the image you cut it out of. I do this because if i screw up the pasted layer in the new image i can always go back and get it again. now then ctrl-click the layer with the pasted image. this selects the layer cutout. go into your other image and hit ctrl-v to paste into that image.

edit: you can also go to the top and under the edit tab, select the copy and paste options. i just use the ctrl commands because its easier
