My wife drove past it everyday for a couple of weeks and would tell me how beautiful this HHR was almost everyday finally one day she said " I'm going to go and test drive that HHR, are you coming?" Of course I said yes, but didn't think we'd be able to buy one at the time. We talked to the guy for a minute and he said he could do it so we went home and the next day we had our sons B-day party and got the call that we could come get it, so after the party we left the kids with friends and went and got it. I didn't even bother to test drive it because I figured it was too much. My wife is a very strong willed woman and usually gets what she wants, and this was one of those times. Now I tell her almost everday how nice it is and she replies " I told you!!!" hahaha true story

To be a real year one my HHR doesn't have to be built in 05 right. 7 of 06 is okay? And where do I get a YR 1 decal?

I always wondered why people will research buying a TV for months and do no research buying a much bigger item like a car.

I did lot's of research.

My '01 PT Cruiser was giving me problems. Unfortunately, the same problems my 95 Caravan gave me when I traded for the Cruiser. I had already decided no more Chrysler products. When I heard of the HHR, I started doing research and really liked what I saw. Being in my late 50's, I wanted something retro. I read for about a month and then decided to look at dealers. Went to some big dealers in bigger towns, and did not like their attitude. Finally got on web site and looked at local dealers inventory. Found exactly what I wanted (Daytona Blue LS with Automatic). Went to the dealer during lunch and drove it. They made me a trade in offer, I counter offered, they called me the next day and took my offer. I picked her up after work that day and absolutely love it. That was 18 months ago. After a few mods, I still get looks from other drivers. I love it.

I wanted a PT turbo, but at 6'6 I was too tall for the interior and couldn't see. We went to the dealer and I took it out for a drive and loved it! It was sitting there with 20's Met Grey 2.2,5 spd Ls no options,PERFECT!!

OK, just a question, mainly towards people who consider themselves "Year One Owners".
Does the term refer to 'owning/driving' a 2006 model (hence the first year of fiddling around and finding out little things that were passed along to the new group (YR-2`ers), or, does it apply to any/everyone who buys a 2006 HHR, and want to be considered a YR-1 owner in the 'mine is a first production year model' vein, so I`m one by default?
Sorta like putting a S/S, or GT badge on a reg. model, knowing all along that thoses are designations of something other than just being badged...

No true research done. The only criteria it had to meet was price.

Our stories couldn't be more alike, with the exception of the sunroof.

I was getting rid of my '95 Yukon and wanted to get something that got better gas mileage. My wife works for GM so I was limited to GM products (for the obvious reasons.) Saw pics of the HHR and (at first) thought it looked kinda ugly. But the more I looked at it, I was thinking that it looked "different". I'm one for "different" and was considering a SSR (until I saw the price ) Wasn't crazy about the PTC. Normally stay away from 1st year models because of all the horror stories. But his one I said what the hell, why not. Read a few articles on them and took two for a test drive (one with the 2.2 and the other with the 2.4. I finally liked it enough to buy one - now I'm hooked. No real research - kinda seat of the pants research.

The car needs to be an 06 model to be considered a yr 1 owner, I would think. It does not mean its the first year youv'e owned it. I think it goes by the model year. 06 is year one no matter how long you've had it and 07 would be yr 2, and so on. My only question is about the production date, I'd say only the late 05 models would be the true yr 1's. But I hope we stick with the model year of 06 because then I'm in and I already have my decal, I'd hate to have to remove it

Lets vote, do a pole on it and find the real answer.
Does YR 1 define:
the production or manufactured date (2005),
the first model year (2006)?

Was looking at the Tahoe, went to test drive it and it had no gas. The dealer took us to gas it up, almost $70. dollars to fill tank. I said forget about it. Saw my DSM on a truck and waited for them to pull it off. It was the first one they had received in September of 05. Test drove and took it home 2 hrs later! No regrets!!!
