360 vs. PS3...
Both run at the same frame rate, and have 1080P.
Xbox now has a three year warranty because of its 33% failure rate.
PS3 will have dualshock 3 after the holidays. It is in development.
PS3 for $399 is not a bad deal at all, and you get spider man 3.
XBOX has better graphics on ported games, because the developers are to lazy to port from ps3 to 360, and not 360 to ps3.
XBOX online is not better than Sony online. The MS store is better, but Sony has a newer understructure. If you add yearly fees, HD drive...PS3 is cheaper all around.
You can play with component cables in 1080P on your TV.
The 40gb will play PS1 games, but not PS2 games. The hardware is not there for ps2 games.
Get the Wii for your son. Your both get enjoyment out of it.
I own a original Nintendo, 2 ps1s, N64, Sega Saturn, Sega geniuses, ps2, ps3, xbox, 360, and gamecube. I'm on sony's "Gamer advisory panel" and am bias towards sony. So please take all my comments with a grain of salt. I just do not like people whom are misinformed.
We've had a PS2 for years and recently got a Wii.
We will never get a 360 because I despise Microsoft so much (and the QC issues)
The PS3 is still too expensive IMO and there are still not enough PS3 specific games to warrant the investment. Lack of the dual shock controllers is another issue I have with it, but I think I read that they are working to bring it back.
If anything, we'll probably pick up another PS2.

I have the Xbox 360, and do a little bit of of online gaming, from everybody i've talked to online, 1. Xbox has better graphics on most games, 2, Xbox live (online gaming) is much better than PS3, and only reason for the price difference is the PS3 comes with Bluray disk player, and Xbox you have to buy the HD DVD player Optional, I enjoy my 360 very much.

I'm actually considering getting a Wii for my son, but of course I will play it as well. We have a PS2 now and love it, but my son loves the new control system the Wii has, and it is only $250. I'm a big fan of the Ratchet and Clank games, and will buy a PS3 later, when the price comes down and more games are available.

Thanks for the info guys!
ok my turn on the subject of games and TV. I like the ps3 because you can play your old playstaion games on it. The others do not do that. I do not have one yet but I dont play enough anymore to make it worth spending 500.
Now TVs we have had a Samsung 64 DLP for almost 2 years. LOVE it. No trouble with it. Finally got a HD and Blue Ray player. Love them both. Colors are unreal on this TV. I think the Blu Ray is a little better and will win the "war" as they have more compaines back it and joining them.
BTW if you buy a DLP check on an instore warranty. This is one time you want it. I got mine at best buy and had the bulb replaced for free.
The bulbs need changed about every 2 years and run about 200 plus install. I wouldnt do it yourself as it is very tricky.
I got a 4 year extra warrenty for about 190 so it has paid for itself.

If you think that then it will be HD-DVD because there was seven blu-ray mfg. owned/contracted with sony and disney which will not allow porn to be made there. Vivid found a mfg. the mysterous 8th to make blu-ray for them. Vivid is keep that mfg a secret, last I heard they did test by making one blu-ray porn that was released march/april. Havent heard any more info. But be warned the hd-dvd vs blu-ray discussion has caused atleast one forum shutting down some of their discussion board.

BTW, just to let you all know, my spending has begun. I bought the XBox 360 Elite last night from Hollywood Video (only because GameStop was sold out of the Elite). It came with Forza Racing 2 and Ultimate Alliance (which is badass, I might add), and I also got Call of Juarez, which is kinda starting to tick me off!
As for the TV, unless I want to save up for a little bit longer and keep playing the Box on my little 20" LCD TV, which I have hooked up with the comp cables at 480p resolution. It sucks, to put it bluntly. I can't read half of the words because their so small, and I am on the edge of my seat constantly, not because the game is so interesting, but because I have to lean up to see stuff
I am going to make a trip to Oklahoma City this weekend to actually see the picture on the TV I want. I'm definitely not going to buy it without seeing it, so I'm taking a couple friends and we're making a day out of tomorrow. We're leavin here at about 9 or 10, putting us there at roughly 11. We'll go to a Circuit City or BestBuy (same pricing), check out the TV, maybe make the purchase, and then head to Hooters for some lunch.
Gotta love the view
As for the TV, you might want to wait for Black Friday (Nov 23rd).
Take a look here at some possible deals and judge if it's worth the wait (and lineups): http://www.black-friday.net/
