Epson has been proven over the years to do the best prints for photos. If that is what your looking for. I've used them since 1997 for photos.

HP ink jets suck baboon balls.

I have 3 of them. 3 pieces of shět. My Epson is OK. They all are expensive to feed though.

I'll be buying a high end Epson professional printer soon for my photography, but I wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with one for day-to-day document printing. Absolutely highest ink cost in the business and most of your ink gets dumped into the sponge as it constantly cleans itself. I do 4x6 photos on a Kodak dye sublimation printer for under 0.40 / print.

Thanks for all the feeback guys! I guess I wasn't very specific, but if it helps, I won't be doing a lot of photo printing. Mostly just directions, some things for my wife (a teacher) and other misc. stuff. Once and while maybe a photo or something with color, but that's all.

I would make sure that if you buy an inkjet it has replaceable print heads or the print heads are part of the ink cartridge. if you don't print very much the print heads can clog rendering the printer useless if they are non replaceable.

I bought a Canon Pixma MX700 on boxing day. It was a great deal and it is actually an excellent printer. I rarely use it and have set it up at my office at work for those times when I am too lazy to send my print jobs to our regular print, HAHAHA. Actually, I bought it mostly so that I could have a scanner near my desk and our scanner at the office doesn't have an automatic feed. This is a really nice feature of the MX700, it makes it a lot easier to scan multi page documents.

It has 4 ink cartridges which are relatively low priced and it also has a memory card reader and Pictbridge for printing images from your phone.

Overall, the print quality is good, the speed is excellent for all functions, the scanning ability is good and the copying is good. The cost per print is excellent.

I also replaced my Cannon with the one from the Kodak line. I really love it.

I bought a Samsung laser printer several years ago and it's awesome. I also do not print much. It works great whenever I need it. It cost $112 new and the toner cartridges are about $80. I haven't replaced mine yet.

If you really don't need the color, buy a cheap laser printer. If you do need the color, buy a color laser printer. Sam's had one for about $400. Inkjets are expensive to operate, the ink costs a fortune, and they don't last long. And the scanner in an all-in-one printer isn't good enough to make it worth it.
