Any Model Car Builders here

I'm the president of the Flint Area Auto Modelers and just wondering if we have any builders or collectors on the forum.
Later Al

i'm not the greatest at them, but i've been building since i was 7. i tend to run out of patience with most of the ones i build at some point throughout their process, so there's always something i end up not happy with by the end. but i don't mind. they still look pretty darn good. i also like to get creative and fab up my own stuff for em. made a full roll cage for a 1983 Camaro Z28, and a custom lift for a 1955 Chevy Apache (too bad i didn't have any spare larger tires for it...looks funny, but kinda cool in its own way lol)

to the site, Al! I'm a builder/collector, the latter only because there isn't enough time to be the former! I've got about 150 kits, started building as a kid...have a kit(s) of all my 1:1 cars past & present...except the HHR Gonna have to scratch build that one some day I guess! You've got quite a collection of 1:1 cars, enjoy your time here

I'm sure almost every guy has built his share of models. I definately built more than my share growing up. While I did have quite a few autos, my favorites were planes. Since I only got the 1/48 scale size for the planes, my ceiling had very little open space when I was a teen.

Who do we need to talk to about getting the HHR in a 1/24 scale??

I build models. Some cars but mostly WW2 aircraft in 1/48 scale, as well as ships in 1/350 scale. Like jay, I've been on the lookout for a 1/24 scale HHR, but haven't had any luck. I have found PT Cruisers, Scion XB's, and several others in our class, but no HHR. It's very frustrating the limited amount of toys and collectables modeled after our car. Especially since it is different than anything else on the road.

I've sent requests to model kit manufacturers in the past about reissues or completely new subjects, seems to fall on deaf ears! I don't know how many requests it takes for them to actually consider it, but we do have quite a few numbers here...maybe a mass request from us could deliver some results! Trouble is right now the hobby seems to be in a lull, possibly from our crappy economy, or that kids don't want to build things with their hands, just play video games, etc! There haven't been many all-new kits out lately, mostly reissues! There are some resin casters out there that will take on a new subject if there is a big enough demand for it...

Welcome to the site Al,

One of my favorite hobbies is building model cars. Unfortunately I don't get much free time to enjoy it and have a hard time finding 1/12th or 1/16th cars I like, and can afford.

Seeing the city Flint mentioned brought back some memories, I grew up in the little town of Montrose.

I build WWII and modern armor and softskins, mostly in 1/35 but have also done some 1/48. Haven't done a car in years.
