My guess is a washing machine motor.

Most of them ha a foot pedal starter though.

A "porch donkey" or "hit or miss" anyway.

Seems odd to me!

The cylinder is out front instead of vertical ?

The only thing is on the flywheel it says WICO ELECTRIC USA.

It might be a pony motor. Some old diesels had these instead of electric starters. Much better in subzero winter weather. I know they were gas with a gear drive, but my memory isn't clear enough on orientation and all...

I last saw one in 1978...
