I can't believe this thread is still going on.
When I started it I thought it was going to be a boring dead issue.
I started with 1/24 Cox cars. Ford GT40 and a Chaparral.
Learned thru magazines how to rewind armatures and solder. Lol.
Then how to shim the permanent magnets.
My brother one Christmas gave me this car, which I still have.
It's from company called Classic which was called the Stinger
This car had a rear spoiler that popped up as you slowed down.
I did add wider tires front and back from the original car.
Had to go faster.

 

You know... It's kinda weird. I couldn't tell you about what I did yesterday, or what I need to do tomorrow.... But, yeah these little cars from back in the 60's. I remember all about those....


Mom and Dad both had dementia before they passed.

 

After my last post I got to thinking about them again. Went out to the garage and brought 3 tackle boxes into the house and sat at the kitchen table for two hours just cleaning them up and testing the motors with a 9 volt battery.
They are ready when I am.

 

i remember those but from the 70's!! i had the the aurora HO scale 69 plymouth superbird loved that car! had some others. spent hours racing them. had a tyco set as well and the HO trains. dad has the larger scale (N/H scale?) Lionel trains from the 40's and had the 1/24 scale tether and slot cars.

Hey catman isnt there a place near you that has a slot track??

 

Good memories, aside from the track, we had a Lionel train set, the engine you added some drops of oil? down the stack & it would puff as it went along.
I can't remember where all that stuff went.

 

I too had a Lionel set. The loco was a 2-6-4 and you could use either oil or pills to drop down the stack.
Inside the stack was a heating element that made the smoke.
My Aurora HO car was a 65 Mustang fastback. I took balsa wood and made a teardrop hood scoop for it.
Then got different type tires for it.
Leave things stock ? Never !

 

I remember getting an Aurora HO set called " Pikes Peak Hill Climb". Played with a couple days, it had two cardboard mountains, you race up one mountain cross a bridge and race down the other mountain. My DAD thought the cardboard mountains would not last so he took it back and exchanged it for a Lionel HO race set called "The Pretzel Bender" it had lots of turns with a split window Corvette & and a Maserati (still got the cars). Had so much fun with it for many years.

My HO "home track" was a four lane road course that had "landscaping" like you would see on a model railroad track... Hills, trees, buildings, grandstand, pit area... The back straight was about a foot higher than the rest, so there was up and down action too.

Platform was an extended 4X8 sheet of plywood, probably 5X10 (approximately) Track design was done so there was equal length and similar turns per lane (as close as possible, anyways) Dual power supply, quick connect for the controllers. I used my same controller at the pro track for the bigger cars.


I had HO trains too.... When my Father passed away a few years ago we were going through his stuff and I found a box of HO trains. He had kept much of my old train stuff all these years. I have it back now.... Doubt I will do anything with it, other than look at it occasionally.
