Mustang Outsells Camaro in 2009

Some things never change. Even with its well executed retro design and pricey Australian-derived, rear-drive architecture, the reborn Chevrolet Camaro still finished second to the Ford Mustang in sales in 2009.
Ford sold 66,623 Mustangs. Chevrolet sold 61,618 Camaros. Of course, the Mustang figure includes coupes, convertibles and Shelby GT500s. And bear in mind the 2010 Camaro didn't go on sale until April 2009, giving the refreshed Mustang a head start on sales.
This year the Mustang gets two new engines -- the 305-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 and the 412-hp 5.0-liter V8. Our not especially brave prediction? Even with a full 12 months of Camaro sales, this battle won't even be close in 2010.

Not sure I agree...the Camaro is really just getting going, and there were a lot of misgivings about the future of GM in 2009 that undoubtedly hampered sales. It's probably anyone's guess how 2010 will flesh out, but the best part is this...
How long has it been since we saw Musclecar Wars like this?
woo hoo!

gm needs to put the LS7 engine in the camaro.....the mustang is puttin out the same power and is much lighter.......i dont think the camaro is going to do as well...i test drove a 2010 mustang and i wasnt impressed cause my 95 trans am would hold a close race. but 412hp......
Depending on the angle I'm spotting it at, I sometimes have to look twice if I see one of the new Challengers to make sure it's not a Camaro and vice versa. Never had that problem between the 2 back when they 1st came out "back in the day" so it must be my old eyes and brain playing tricks.
I prefer the looks of the new Challenger for my taste even if it is a Chrysler product. My point is perhaps there are other baby boomers like me that are going retro and buying the Challenger instead of the Camaro although I do realize there are some that are brand loyal.

I really like the Camaro. Does anyone else see "Chuckie" in the front grill? God that's a good looking car!!!

Indeed. That would average out to 5552 units/month for Mustang, and 6846 units/month for Camaro. One is a brand-new car (Camaro), whereas the other is a refreshing of an existing car (Mustang). Needless to say, the Camaro would get off to a slower start as it would be ramping up production.
I'd say the General wins this comparison, no matter how biased the news story reproduced in the first post!
