I remember when Bombardier showed off the original concept back in the '90s, but I didn't know they ever put it into production. I like the idea myself, but something about the front wheels just doesn't look right to me. I would also like to see better lighting up front, especially with that giant grouper nose up there.

I dunno. I'm thinking about getting my first bike sometime in the next year and this caught my eye. I like the touring capability with the cargo, but the MPG's seem a little low for a bike. Being that I'm fairly uncoordinated, this rig may keep me from turning myself into a greasy spot in the middle of the interstate.

Since you asked for opinions. Looks good in the photo. Probably fun to "drive". I see them quite often on the road around here, and I have to say the look pretty silly IMHO. Maybe just need to get used to it. A friend who used to ride called me and said he would never stop laughing at me if I bought one. That wouldn't stop me though, heck I bought an HHR and converted a lot of folks to the fact it is a very cool car.

Yeah, I bought the HHR because *I* thought it was cool and I really don't care about the ribbing I get from some of my friends. The worst was after the infamous Super Bowl commercial. I don't really like any of the stock colors for the Spyder, so I'd have to get some kind of wrap or custom paint.

I have seen lots of them in Sturgis. They offer test rides, which I have not done. I would be interested when I get older and can not ride a two wheeler.

I am looking to buy my first bike next spring. I really like the Ducati Monster 696. Iwant an '09 as it looks alot different and better IMO then previous years. Will hav to see. As far as this spyder, not my thing but I am sure they serve a purpose and a niche market. As far as the mentioned t-rex, I saw only one of these and it was in LV about 2 years ago. Very nice until you see the price $50k! This is something that I would only purchase if I had money to piss away.

We've had ours for over two years, 24,000 miles, including a cross-country trip all the way to the Tennessee/North Carolina border. We rode ours on the Tail of the Dragon, an 11 mile stretch of road with 318 turns in it. I can't say enough good things about them and now that they have released a touring version, there's something for just about everybody.

It's a different kind of fun. If leaning into turns is what does it for you then it'll disappoint but if you get your kicks just being outside, there isn't a better choice and that's how it is for me. I'm actually thinking about giving up 2-wheelers because now that the Spyder exists with all its added safety features, there's no reason for the added risk of just 2 wheels. All of you who are interested, the dealers do free demo rides and there's a "semi-automatic" model for those that have never shifted a motorcycle.

Again, I can't say enough good things about them.

Looks cool, but my 2 (or even 3) wheel days are over, Saw GOD one to many times in my crazy sport bike years . The scary thing was the other drivers , That could give a s-it about watchin for bikes. My year in Fl. was the worst, When you can go to CVS and get your Lic. renewed with out a test, And your 90, That's not good for peeps on bikes.

But there is quite a rush doing 155-165 on 2 wheels.

My dad has a new RT-S touring model Spyder. I rode it with him a few times when I was home. I also have no idea how to ride a bike so he took me out for lessons on it. It was pretty easy to get used to shifting etc with it, can't wait to go home and do it again. I plan on taking the training course here and it will be nice to have a handle on shifting etc and then I can add balance of a 2-wheeler into the mix.

i like that it is a lot easier for me to ride with him. He likes when I can go with him, but on his old bike, it was pretty hard, cause we're both big guys, not fat, we just take up a good amount of seat. Plus, I don't really want to sit THAT close to my dad...

He got it mainly because he was in a car accident years ago and messed his leg up. As he has gotten older he has more trouble balancing on it. Plus if my mom goes with him, it's a lot harder. He looked at a lot of trikes and decided on the Spyder. Now he can just ride and not worry about his leg. I know he is loving it, a kid again.
