Crash #2 ...came away clean this time!

Back during the summer, I managed to crash my HHR into a Hyundai SantaFe, resulting in replacement of my front bumper guard and assorted clamps, bolts and gee-gaws. Cost me the $500 deductible plus getting dinged as being "at fault" by my insurance company.

Yesterday I was travelling on the NY State Thruway during morning rush hour, trying to keep space between my HHR and whoever was in front of me. Traffic in front of me slowed abruptly...I stopped with little space to spare..and then I looked in my rearview mirror and saw (and heard) the onrushing line of cars beginning to crash into each other in sequence...still no room in front or to the side to get out of the way...just as the guy in front of me moved a little I felt the car behind bump into me, so I ended up as the first car in the chain reaction...it didn't sound or feel too bad...I got out, walked around and saw that I had sustained NO damage nor did the pick-up truck that hit me show any front end damage..so I told that driver to have a nice day got in my car and moved on.

My sister-in-law was coming down the same stretch of thruway about a half hour later and saw about 6 or 7 cars still crunched into each other, drivers exchanging information.

I'm now looking for an alternate route to work!

Kinda sucks, at least it sounds seem too serious.

I've been in a couple accidents like this. In both cases there was actually damage to the bumper and support stuff underneath the bumper cover. In both cases it was between $500 and $1000 worth of damage.

Some idiot in an old Suburban decided that it is possible for two objects to take the same place at the same time, or at least he tried to prove his theory by changing halfway into my lane, with me in it before he noticed me and swerved back. I was forced to leave the roadway... freakin' idiots out there.

Don't blame you, Tom. Glad Tropicar didn't take another hard hit like the summertime one. That sounds similar to the wreck that took Stitch I out, only the one behind me was just one idiot.

Wow, that stinks man. I assume he is covering it on his insurance?
did all that damage come from tire shreds ?!

It was a unique blowout that is for sure....When the incident happened it occurred in a split second and it pretty much looked like i hit a complete tire... i looked at the tire and rig afterwards... the inside part of the tire remained on the rim but the whole tread and outer wall of the tire remained intact when it left the rig...that is why it did so much damage to the jag and my car....

Geico has been excellent , they wrote me a check (no lien holder) and will proceed with payment recovery against the trucker's insurance..

Once my repairs are completed i will be claiming "diminished value" against the trucker's insurance . Geico is helping me with that process
