Let’s not.

Just a PITA with roots in wartime propaganda.

March 13 between 2:00 and 3:00 am won’t happen.

If that isn’t weird enough, November 6, 2022, between 1:00 and 2:00 am, will happen twice.

Hawaii and most of Arizona ignore DST.

There is a serious case to be made for getting rid of time zones altogether, eliminating the need to figure ours which one you’re talking about. The United Nations has adopted Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), an improvement on “Greenwich time” or more correctly Greenwich Mean Time (GMT.) The U.S. Army calls UTC “Zulu Time.”

If we get rid of this time zone nonsense, it’ll be the same time everywhere, and every 24 hours at the same time everywhere, it will be tomorrow. (Quantum physics notwithstanding.) Then our biggest problem will be when to eat lunch. And maybe avoiding world wars.

LOL.

No one pays attention to Ides of March anywhere I’ve ever lived. St. Paddy’s day on the other hand… Thursday is the worst day for it. We’ll lose 5 days, four of drunkenness and and an especially heinous hangover Monday. Me, I just wear green.

You just know, somewhere on the planet, some poor sap will be driving to work at 6:00 in the morning and the sun will be going down... Right?

Nah. Everyone will still head for work some time around sunrise and eat lunch when the sun is high in the sky. What time that is in UTC will simply vary depending on where you are on the planet. In Ohio if you traditionally get up at 6:00am EST, you’ll still do that at the exact same astrological time of day but the clock will say 11:00 UTC and when you eat lunch instead of 12:00 the clock will say 17:00 UTC, and in Chicago they’ll eat lunch and hour later at 18:00 UTC. No change except getting used to it. One benefit is that when announcing live events like a football game, you don’t need to explain the time in terms of various time zones. The UTC time a game starts or the President begins his speech is the same for everyone everywhere.

Think about this - the time of your birth is meaningless without knowing the place of your birth. Not an issue if it is recorded in UTC.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 09:42 PM.
