Still Serving

Recently I came home from another tour in Afghanistan. There I was placed in charge over 3 guys who served during Vietnam. I asked them why there not home enjoying the cold beer and the good life and they responded with

" The boys needed me again after the towers fell" I asked them of their ages and they were 58, 59, and 59. I was very shocked to see them in (FOB Salerno )Afghanistan wearing our uniform and keeping pace with 18-21yrs like it was nothing. Our body armor is not light. Average extra weight is @40lbs just in the vest and kevlar.

One chain of command was afraid to take the 59 out on the roads, but finally did. They were concerned with his heart and health, but he said they didnt get me then, and I doubt it will happen now.

They were from the California National Guard part of an Engineer Company there doing roadwork. One was a E-4 Specialist and the 2 others were E-5 Sergeants. Because of there service, even the higher ranks gave them respect and let them kinda tend to themself.

So My hats off to you who want to serve, Great RESPECT, and I applaud you.
