First I heard of this

Talking with a buddy about replacing the thermostat housing on my kid's Jeep, he told me of a trick he as used for quite awhile. He would stick an aspirin in the thermostat holding it open. then when refilling the coolant, you don't have to worry about air bubbles trapped behind the thermostat. It would then dissolve and not damage anything. I would guess it should be one of the coated aspirins but curious if anyone has tried this??

LOL!

Acidic but a bit of a biocide. Will add some ions but probably trivial effect. IDK. Wonder what GM would say?

Some drill a little hole in it for the same reason. It passes air faster than coolant, and the tiny “leak” has no real effect on warmup. In the olden days I thought they all had a hole.

Now a days drilling a hole just ruins the thermostat, just burp the system, it’s very easy and definitely not rocket science!

the thermostat that came with the housing (on the Jeep) has a hole in it. The one for my Land Rover also has a hole in it (factory) I would just like to avoid the headache...
