First time I've seen one of these....

Took my daughter to the Tellus Museum in Cartersville GA and saw this there. No motor in it as they were all destroyed.

This one at the museum doesn't have the motor in. So it's a little bit light in the front end.

It's also supported by stands.....

If you don't know about these rare GM unit's, Google "who killed the electric car".

There are no unit's in the civilian population. All destroyed except for those that ended up like this one, and it's got no driveline.

I had one of the "test mules" for a week. I was kind of impressed with the performance.....but was lucky to achieve 50 miles to a charge. Charging requirements was dependant on application . Charging it twice a day really sucked.

How did they get a body? All were crushed except for those given to museums with strict instructions never to be allowed on the road again. I know GM kept a few also, but doubt they would sell those.

Maybe they are making a look alike from a Saturn?

You're talking lead acid battery technology in those days. It is understandable that there wasn't very much range, especially when you consider the stored energy to weight ratio. Later EV1's were equipped with nickel metalhydride batteries, which were better in cold weather, but were often susceptable to overheating upon high discharge rates.

These batteries were a far cry from the poly lithium ion battery technology of today; and it keeps getting better.
