Bet you can't wait to be a short timer. I was in the 426 sig battalion at Ft. Bragg in the early '70, just down the hill from the 82nd Airborn. Good Luck Think I read in one of your post that you are in the 82nd. so you know where the 426 is.

It's the 15 months worth of paychecks that I can't spend. Out of my last 6 months of salaries I have probably only spent $1500. Our COP (combat out-post) is in the middle of nowhere and there isn't anywhere to waste your money. We make PX runs enough to maintain a supply of junk food.

He forgot to mention that money is tax-free. It's a nightmare filing your taxes when you return but the amount saved is well worth it.

End of tour?

It looks like my tour might be cut short and not for a good reason. For that last week I have been on medivac status for an elarged spleen. None of the docs anywhere I have been yet have a cause or a cure. So, know I am waiting for a flight to Germany where they should have the ability to do all the tests needed to figure what is wrong with me. At least I have had internet at all of the medical facilities I have been to so I can keep up to date on all of the good info here on the boards.

I hope for a C-17, I've never been much of a fan of the C-130 "Barfin' Wagon".

I did that cause I thought it was gonna be cold and wore goretex under flack vest and helmet bonus was that we circled the base and went up and down for one and half hours. Take care, hope they find whats wrong, and nothing serious.

R & R

OK, I know I have not kept you guys update. So, here is the latest. My trip to Doc's turned out fine. I ended up having an abcess with staph infection. A minor incision and a couple of days enjoying the effects of morphine and I was back to work.

Now, I am getting ready to enjoy 18 days of civilization as I head stateside for R & R leave. Nothing planned yet except enjoying some time away from the sandbox and being with my girlfriend. We have talked about taking a week away but, have yet to decide on a destination yet. Until we decide I will be hanging out in Omaha, NE.

Take it easy,
