Does it serve them (or the shareholders) right and will it get worse?

GM has the best fuel economy of the Big Three and more passenger cars that get 30 MPG than anyone else. Unlike Chrysler and Ford, GM also has a variety of subcompact and compact cars.
GM is shutting down truck plants now because the 2009 model allocations are just now beginning and it'll give them and the dealers a chance to reduce their inventories of trucks that won't sell without huge incentives. That actually saves more money than selling a bunch of trucks to dealers then having to offer incentives later to help the dealers move them.
I still don't understand how Toyota gets away with offering so many SUV models and nobody rags on them the way they do GM.
