GM Back to Work on new SS
I like the Aveo RS, and the Cruise is fine, too. So it's a matter of taste. I wouldn't be surprised to see a performance version of each, but whether it wears an SS or not remains to be seen. They might just go with either RS or LTZ designations, both with long histories at Chevy.

The Aveo has not been anounced yet but I would be shock if it did not also have the SS badge. GMPD is all about hardware and not trim packages. The rule is it must stop, go and turn at a high level to recieve a SS badge. I expect both will do well in each catagory.
Yes, you did mention GM was working on things, but not disclosing anything yet. It's not a surprise they would be; after all, once you got the basic model sorted out you can add the icing to the cake with models that will increase sales by appealing to those who would otherwise shop elsewhere for their performance fix.
I'll admit though, the idea of an Aveo SS sounds about as appealing as the Sprint Turbo did back in the 80's. I still can remember a comedian joking about it.... "Two rubber bands instead of one!"
I'm sure they'll have something in store for the new Malibu when it arrives.....

Lets face it the idea of a HHR SS did not really apeal to me till I drove one. I never wanted FWD, a 4 cylinder or a HHR but today I could not be happier. One odd chance for a solo test drive where I could hammer one sold me and brought me back 2 months later to buy one.
There is talk of a Malibu being looked at but it is early yet. The Bu will get a V6 DOHC option and will be on the same platform as the Buick Regal the press loves. It will also be cheaper.
My present 08 Bu with a V6 and 18" wheels is as fast as my 04 GTP and much better to drive and has a better ride. So while it has no SS on it it is far from a slouch.
don't forget about the Z-28 coming out. That car is cool and a real challenge to the Ford Mustang. There are many other interesting concepts that are being looked at. If you have an idea let GM know they are a lot more interested in customer feedback than they used to be.
If Chevy is going to have a Cruze SS model in the future, this is the one I want!

Too bad they aren't likely to bring the hatch, back into the US market. I think it looks much better than the sedan from behind.

Of all the GM models that should get the SS treatment: Malibu, and.... well that really is the only model that should have gotten an SS badge from the beginning. Chevrolet has nothing if you look at their website.
