GM Pink Slips for Windsor Workers
I will be safe this time and will make the next projected cut to 2,400 units a day in 2008.But by Sept.2009 we are suppose to go down to 1,500 units a day and I won`t make that one.I drive lift truck and my job is to deliver parts to the 2 assembly lines I work steady afternoons for 26 years. So I work and see just about the entire work force each line has about 80 workers.Just about everyone in this first cut will be from the 4 assembly lines.I have got to say Friday was the first time I did my job and not one line worker said anything to me when I delivered there parts.
All the talk on the machine floor was about how many would end up on the line and how close there where for round 2.It`s not the same as the big layoff in 1993 we where told we were coming back these guys no they are not.I know most of my fellow wokers I will never see again as we all leave on the same day for vacation and 375 less return.I have read about these kinds of stories and now I am going to be in one of the pages just don`t know what chapter. This weekend I am going to have to rethink about my HHR Panel I have ordered and if it would become a bad choice if I don`t have a job.

That really sucks Mike.
From my work as a contractor to GM I was aware of the July shutdown, but to tie the layoffs to coincide with the annual shutdown and make the employees eat up their vacation pay before they can get UI is a pretty raw deal IMO.
Hopefully the folks that are laid off will get a good severance package. I know with my employer, employees that have over 10 years of service are treated better than folks with under 10 years of service...I think this is tied in to the Ontario labour laws.
For those folks that are a few years short of a full pension, maybe the union can swing some sort of deal with GM. With GM buying out so many employees, you'd think they might be willing to kick in some to top them up.

Time will tell Buzz Hargrove and some others from the National will be at the plant on Tuesday.Buzz will get the best package he can for those workers.I know when G M closed St. Therese he was able to move everyone up in time served. And we were told he is not going to to let them lay them off in July so that part is going to be delt with on Tuesday. We all knew this was coming early in 2008 but they jump the gun by 10 months.

Hopefully you're not one of the people being let go.
