GM Workers go out on Strike...
Chris'sHHR,
It's easy to see you are pro union. They are offered in my line of work. I declied. As did each and everyone in my area. Hell of a lot more room for advancement than dealing with a union. You can call me lower middle income or upper lower income or whatever they hell you like.
This strike is going to hurt a lot of people, but you have already stated you only want your "share" of the pie and could care less about others. When I hear union member talk like that, it reinforces my thoughs on unions. If you want a life style that allows the butt picker next to you to make the same as you, hope life works out for you. For me, get ride of the butt picker and either give me a raise or hire someone that can do the job at my level. Of course the butt picker wants the union so he will have "job security".
Guess it time for me to use that ignore feature. I'm tired of hearing some of the crap here.
End Rant......
This sounds awfully socialist to me. The beauty of a capitalist, free market environment is that if you don't like your job because of pay, benefits, management, co-workers or whatever else is that you can leave and find something that suits you better.
Remuneration should always be based on merit. If I work twice as hard as the next guy and can produce twice as much product as him I should get twice the remuneration.
If I could got payed the same as everyone else I would have no motivation to work harder.
If you're comments are based on union principles than something is really flawed. There should be some sort of incentive for setting yourself apart from everyone else.

I've got some hard numbers what it costs my Employer to have me around Operating. For all you non union guys who think its in the $90 range+.
all rates are an hour
Health and welfare $5.65
pension $5.20
Apprenticeship program $0.30
Target Construction research fund $0.05
and the big number
Wage $29.65
total $40.85
Hummm thats a $50 difference from the 90 you guys were sayin. UAW wages are less than this BY FAR
As far as your argument for merit raises New hire employees have a $2 an hour wage reduction for the first 1000 hours worked, then a $1 reduction for the second 1000 hours worked and thereafter is at full scale. Also they are on probation for the first 6 months where at any time they may be dismisses without reason. In 6 months you know if someone is worth keeping or not. Doesnt seem like so much when you really think about it.

Paid holidays (is it 15+ now)
Paid vacation (of course, the amount is dependent on the individuals seniority)
Contributions to State "relief" funds
Contributions to Federal "relief" funds
Shut-down or change over pay??
I hope there is no correlation but I've noticed that oil prices took a pretty big hit yesterday and today. Oil was under $80 a barrel today.
I noticed this morning that the TSX (Canadian stock market where many oil companies trade) is down as well, not to mention my investments!
If there is some sort of tie those folks better get back to work because it's now costing me money!
