I'd still love to know where this $83,000 a year figure is coming from, although it's probably something else you've managed to pull out of your ass.
Atfirst i thought you where agreeing with "Kingfrog" then I kept reading...

[QUOTE=Kingfrog;198842]Job Security is the reason. Amazing. NO ONE has job security in business. It's not a right nor should it be. You want job security, BUILD BETTER CARS.....$30 an hour to turn screws....that don't stay that way. [QUOTE]
Actually the wage is in the lower to mid twenties, same as Toyota.

[QUOTE]Catch a clue from Toyota and Honda.[QUOTE]
Toyota has about the same pay rate, their execs make less and they do not have the overwhelming retiree pensions and health plans. One problem with the auto makers lies with management itself. They invent jobs for themselves like "Throughput Champion" What in the world does that mean? It's not the workers driving themselves out of jobs , it's middle management and upper management. They sit in meetings thinking up ways to reduce costs (usually meaning laying off people) and then give themselves raises. US Automakers also screwed up on health care providing. When Toyota does it, they have in house clinics, pharmacies, doctors and such to take care of employees. I am no defender of unions, but I believe that the unions are not the ones to blame here on this issue. Do you realize that in my county it takes over $11 an hour at a 40 hour per week job to just make ends meet...and that is with a two income household and no kidlets.

If you haven't taken a paycheck in years, how do you live?

Read the thread and you will have the answer to your first question.

$30 and hour plus $10 an hour bennys. = $40 an hour. x 40 x 52 weeks + $83,000 per year total compensation not to mention the employer's portion of Social Security. Tack on only $4 in benefits and you still have $70K a year. Thats the average income for someone with a Master's Degree. Median household income is less then $50k. How is it you believe someone installing speakers in a Chevy truck should earn more then $50k a year???

I have nothing against earning a decent living. Where we part ways is the definition of decent living. Unions have ruined companies and thus employees.
Companies are forced to go overseas for cheap labor just to compete. Toyota Pays their American employees LESS then American companies. Yet 70% do not want a union.

The teacher's union is ruining the education system, The Airlines had to restructure. ATC union got busted.

You don't want to make a "decent living". you want to earn as much as an MBA on a High School education and feel ENTITLED to it.

Reality Bites....Hard

This is not the 50's. The economic impact to the nation is baely a blip if GM goes under. WHy? Because the same base of cars will be sold except they will be made by other workers for other companies. Ford and Chrysler will fill the gap as well as the Am/Japanese workers.

If I were you I would give Michael Moore a call. He might help out.

Catch a clue from Toyota and Honda.

The wage is nearly $30 an hour. The executive excuse is old. Plenty of white collar workers get laid off.

If it takes $11 dollars an hour to make ends meet go back to school, move to a less expensive area, Its YOUR responsibility to earn more if you need more. Not the government or Private companies. OR Mommy and Dddy Union...Everyone feels they are entitled to more more more just because they want more more more. Yet no one wants to take personal responsibility to get the education needed to earn more or better yet spend less.

Hmmm Lets see I can pay Mr harder working humble Mexican $3.00 an hour to do the SAME job as arrogant "I want more" Joe Union does for $30 plus plus plus...........Same job. Assemble cars. If anyone has seen Mexican workers they have to say they work long and hard for nothing in this country and theirs and they do good work. I have no issue with my HHR being assembled in Mexico. In fact I have never and will never buy a car made entirely by Union workers new or used. They are never satisfied and cannot think for themselves as well support socialist ideas.

Boy isn't that wishful thinking. I think it brought out true colors on some.

I get to expense out some of the auto since it is mainly for work and my wife designs torpedo software simulation codes for the DOD. Some job security in defense. Unfortunatly the bookstore/collectible empire I worked so hard to create does not pay well unless I rip folks off in buying things , which is not in my DNA. So with the paradigm shift to the internet for all our comforts, smaller brick and mortar stores are a hutin'.

Large category killers like Wal Mart do just fine because they grew so large they call the shots. Just modern economics.

I need to do a more service oriented vocation, hence I'm photographing more weddings and such. Inventory heavy stores make no sense unless the store calls the shots or pays next to nothing for the inventory. I can do neither, hence mounting debt or rotating debt.

Anyway, back to our union/anti union thread already in progress

Just my opinion, but I think it might be a good idea for the moderators to move this thread to "The Lounge" area of these forums. We really got off the topic of "General HHR". Again, just my opinion.
