Oh, and you forgot to include a key word in your description of the system...."PUBLIC".
Law enforcement has had access to this information for many more years (1970's) through a properly instructed command through NCIC.

I don't personnally own a handgun, but believe you should be able to if you pass the back ground checks. We all have a right to defend ourselves against dnagerous agression that may cause bodily harm or death. Like we said when I worked for the Fed. Prison System. When in the tower, in case of attempted escapes etc, Aim to mame, but no garuntee in Markmanship.

No way I would flee in my own home. I don't know what the law is here in Oklahoma, but I remember in WV it was something like you had to be in the farthest place away from your home entrance before you could retaliate, which is a little better, but not much. If I see someone breaking into the living room, I'm not gonna bait them to my bedroom just to shoot 'em.
