has anyone used an invisible fence

I tried this once. Out of the three dogs that I had at the time, only one respected it. IMO, they are a waste.

No stubborn dog here, just extremely terrified of everything. She is also very anxious. A few weeks ago it was windy at night and the wind scared her, she broke off her collar and came home

If you have a stubborn dog you can get a collier that has a more powerful shock. Uses a nine volt battery and the amount of shock is adjustable. That's what I had to do with my Golden Retriever. Once he was trained he was fine with the fence. We do not even put the collier on him all the time anymore. Just occasionally to remind him. They don't like getting shocked very much.
We have ours all the way around our 1 1/2 acre yard. Put it in my self using an gas sidewalk edger. Hole yard only took 90 minutes.
