Homeowners Rate Hikes
My Sister lives in Seminole FL and she recently told me her Homeowners Ins. Co. is dropping her ( I think she said it was State Farm ??) and she has to go with some sort of State sponsored insurance in January. They've already told her the premium will probably be triple what she pays now. She's seriously thinking of selling out and moving up to No. Carolina somewhere. She's 82 and isn't that a great age to have to consider such a thing.
Yea, we're supposed to accept the increase because at least we still have insurance!
I was an insurance underwriter in St Louis for several years and am amazed at some of the tinderboxes they call commercial buildings down here, especially restaurants. No wonder they blow down in a hurricane. Our local politicians also fought to make us exempt from the building codes that applied to the rest of Florida. Now we're paying for it. Concrete homes are considered inferior construction up here. They're the standard down south. If they could come up with a wind-proof roofing material, we'd see very few claims down there.
