I've had my ATV for 25 years this summer
This July, my Honda TRX250 will be 25 years old. I bought it BRAND NEW at Plaza Honda in Brooklyn for $2200. They were $200 cheaper in Brooklyn at the time, because they couldn't sell them there like they could in the country. I was alot younger and gas was alot cheaper, so I didn't mind hauling my trailer down there to pick it up.
In those days, 4 wheel ATCs were something new and were more motorcycle-like. Honda sold both the 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers in 1986. They started calling the 4 wheelers ATVs instead of ATCs. They only came in 2WD. This was the largest Honda you could get in 1986 (Kawi made a 300 and Suzi made a 230, but I liked the Honda 250 at the time). Honda also offered a 125 and a 200SX. The SX was a 4 stroke "Sport" model. A couple of years later, Hondas had 4WD and Suzuki intoduced the Quadzilla. Things were starting to take off. We never got into any trouble riding them for 25-30 miles in an afternoon around the PA countryside, because people didn't know what they were, so they didn't bother you. Things sure have changed over the years.
So this past weekend, in the interest of preservation, I cleaned it up, bought new tires, battery, filters, plug, adjusted valves, clutch etc. Cleaned everything and polished the plastic. Got all lighing working including the optional speedometer. It still runs great after all these years.
