Air cooled VWs were all about 13mm and 17mm wrenches. Why are modern metrics all about 12mm, 14mm, 15mm and 18mm?

Is it so they are closer to SAE sizes? But still not close enough.

I used to get away with 2 wrenches in the emergency kit, now I need a whole set.

 

I know, and 21 mm for the strut nuts and LCA's rear bolt.

 

Back in the mid 80's I just cut off the bottom of my roll around tool chest and mounted it where the back seat used to be in my '70 Duster....

 

Nice plug for Mopar, I think...
