Question Key Fob Redesign

So as stated in another thread I was tired of messing around with my crappy key fobs and went into my local Chevrolet dealership and acquired new ones. They look exactly like the old ones except the buttons are slightly recessed into the fob. Was this redesigned for a specific reason? My fobs for my 2001 Ford still work perfectly. Wish most could say the same about their Chevy ones.

Pop one apart and compare the guts with your old ones, maybe they changed the rubber "Buttons & Contacts" insert.

Can you post some pics?

Old fob on left. Buttons flush with case. Unlock button has an area that protrudes slightly. Lock button has a slight divot. New fob on right. Buttons slightly recessed from case. The unlock/lock buttons are completely smooth. No protrusion or divot.

The fob I got with my 2011 in February has the raised/recessed buttons, which are nice for finding the right button by touch. My fob lacks the top button, is that for remote start?

I see that the icons in your pic are slightly different on the new fob. I'd bet that they tweaked the design slightly for 2012 across all GM brands, but the question is, why?

Maybe ChevyMgr will pop in with some insight.

Hmmm, not sure I'd like the redesigned ones, hard to operate them by "touch" when your hands are full.

Mine all seem to be similar, but some are a little more recessed, good thing I gave away the set for the 5sp, they didn't have enough buttons.

Wonder what Mikes pile looks like, , Is it one of them boxes like the dealers have ??

I keep them all separate Sam, otherwise confusion would reign in the mornings around here.

, Or you could throw them in a bowl and just see which one unlocks when you get to the garage, making it his lucky day.

Hillsdale how do the new ones drive, nice and smooth ?

They do the job and able to once again remote start. For a couple of days I had to actually use the key to get in the car. That was inconvenient.
