Is it because a (locked) car is involved, or are we just generally afraid of things that go bump in the night ?
Leaving a child unattended in a car locked or unlocked is not smart. Doing it in freezing weather is just as bad as doing it in 100+ degree temps.

Now if she had of left it running so they had heat.

Granted it`s a bad idea, but people do things all the time that most people consider to be bad ideas. I think the "Home Alone" incident blew things out of proportion. Now we see a child abuser around every corner.
A 10yr old can watch a sibling for a few minutes, most of us did.
These are the same kids that in a couple years, the Army will be asking to defend the free world.
If the motor had been left running, the cry would be, (what if they put the car in gear).

We have people who take it in the other direction. They leave kids & pets in the car during the summer time here. With temps over 100 outsie your car gets over 120 in a few minutes.
Those people just need to be shot. Sorry sounds harsh but thats how I feel

I can`t understand why the first reaction people have is to commit a violent act against some one, to show your disapproval of their action.

Which goes back to the first comment. Leaving a child in a car unattended is not smart. Period.
