I managed to track down a place that still had some old stock of the OOP Anchor Bay release of The New York Ripper. So I paid $23.98 for a sealed new copy as opposed to the $50-100 it's going for on ebay and Amazon. :twothumbs I also pre-ordered Blue Underground's release of City Of The Living Dead due out 2/27/07. Lucio Fulci got much love from me today!

I don't feel disappointed though because I have one of their first run VHS tapes and it is one of the funniest films ever. I die every time the one guy flips out and sings "Let's Build a Snowman". The trapper song gets me every time also. Plus all of the little jokes like when Matt offers Trey fudge and asks, "Fudge Packer?". That film is great! I have all of Matt and Trey's films.
I bought one of those cheap retail VHS's, then it got destroyed and I got a DVD player so I got the DVD upgraded version of it. If you happen to cross its path, I would highly recommend playing it with the director's commentary on, because it's hilarious: not a lot of commentary you couldn't figure out on your own, but it's fun because it's Parker, Stone, Dian Bachar and one other guy from the production sitting around a microphone watching the movie and getting drunk. I fully agree with you that it's one of the funniest films ever, especially for a student film that's supposed to be funny. Though I have to admit, my favorite part of the movie is the Japanese Indians. "We are ... Indians. You do not believe that we are ... Indians? Look ... we have tepees. Look at all the tepees we have here ... because we are ... Indians!"

"That is very interesting." The Indian Cheif was great as G-Fresh in Orgasmo.

My The New York Ripper deal fell through. I got an email a couple of hours after I ordered telling me that they checked their inventory and it's no longer in stock. It also said that it is no longer available through any of their distributors. I think if I hold out Blue Underground will put it out. William Lustig seems to be releasing the best of all of the Anchor Bay titles no longer in print under his company including his own films. Good examples would be my two recent pre-orders Maniac and City of the Living Dead. If that's the case I hope he releases Mario Bava's Bay of Blood a.k.a. Twitch of the Death Nerve. I LOVE that film! Seeing as how that fell through I ordered Ruggero Deodato's Cut and Run and the infamous Men Behind the Sun.

View a extremely rare exploitation film

If anyone is interested I posted T.F. Mou's entire film Lost Souls on my MySpace page. T.F. Mou also directed Men Behind the Sun and Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre. Lost Souls is an 1980 exploitation classic produced by the Shaw Brothers who are better known for their Kung-Fu films. It's sub-titled but I left the sections large enough so they are easy to read. A word of caution. The film isn't for the light hearted and neither is my site. It tells the tale of the unfortunate travels of a group of Chinese boat people who arrive in Hong Kong by stealth and are immediately targeted by low-level people traders. It is in it's original uncut Chinese version which would equate to a hard R. Enjoy! If you are into WWII history I would suggest checking out his other works. Men Behind the Sun is the story of the infamous Japanese Unit 731. Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre is pretty self explanatory. It's cool to see WWII from the Japan vs. China perspective. Japan seems almost as bad as Germany after I did some research.

I know there are some spaghetti western fans on here. I just ordered Fulci's Four of the Apocalypse uncut. Anchor Bay restored the scenes cut from the American version but they chose to leave them in the original Italian language with sub-titles. I don't mind sub-titles by any means but I think it's going to be a little weird watching it in English then when a restored scene comes about having it switch to Italian just to have it go back to English after the scene. It's not unheard of when restoring cut American versions of films but I don't own any other DVDs that are like that. I think it would almost be better if they dubbed the missing scenes regardless if the voices match or not. Or presented the film in its original Italian form with sub-titles and said screw the English language track.

I've got Man Bites Dog on Laserdisc. I never got it on DVD. Guess I'll wait for HD/Blu Ray version. What a movie! Double feature it with Henry, Portrait of a Serial killer and you get one disturbing night!

Oh, cool thread BTW. The Clockwork thing had run its course, though I watched most of the movie again last night. There really is a lot more to enjoy in HD, little details........
Anyway, I'll go back to reading this thread as I'm olny a few posts in.........

There is a huge problem with DVD's now. They make special cases for collectors. They keep on releaseing the same movies but with extra features. and now you have Blue Ray and DVD HD. Which means everything that has been allready out for DVD will be out again under those 2 formats.

I love special case DVDs. I smell my Dark Sky 2 disk metal case Texas Chainsaw Massacre every day! Sometimes I'm suckered into the special case thing. I'm always swayed buy an uncut or directors cut of a movie. If there are two versions out of the same film I will go out of my way to find the uncut version. I hate when they release a special or uncut version after I've bought the normal theatrical cut. Then I have to buy the film again. At least going over to Blu Ray or HD DVD should be easier than going from video cassette to DVD because Blu Ray and HD DVD play current DVDs correct?

That actually sounds like a double header I would try to make my wife watch. She has seen Henry but hasn't seen Man Bites Dog yet. I doubt she'll get the humor of Man Bites Dog. Dark comedy at it's best. I have the Dark Sky 20th anniversary edition of Henry and it has one of the best director’s commentary tracks ever.
