Hey, "Spider Baby" is on TCM Friday night. A really dippy trainee cannibal film.

RATING WOES FOR 'GRINDHOUSE'

Hell yeah! I can't wait for Grindhouse! I have been following it all along and have seen trailer and some of the early proofs. I can't wait! Planet Terror looks a little better than Death Proof but I know they'll both be sick! They even had other directors do trailers for fake films to play before the movies and during the intermission.

It seems as though Steve Rogers is no more.....But then again, this is Marvel comics where nothing is really as it seems..................

We are betting that Nick Fury had this whole thing staged since Cap was going to federal prison for a long time as the US government considers him a traitor since his side surrendered in the Civil War.
( What, your confused, where ya been, ya gotta read Marvel's Civil War! ).

Cap's body will be whisked off to a place where he and Nick can plan to rebuild the US since the Superhuman registration Act has become the Law of the land, and Iron Man, though for noble reasons seems to be the real traitor/corporate raider!
Stay tuned...........

Or Cap could be dead and that's that...........
Marvel has kept mum on all of it which makes ordering these non-returnable comics a real hassle. We turned away hundreds of people the day Cap died because Marvel did not tell us they had told the media AND they never gave a clue as to the story within. They could have at least sent us an email saying something vague like, " Ya may wanna git some more Captain America # 25's, Really!" But they did not....................Bastiches!
Anyway my customers were served as well as they could be by us and any desperate fool could run to ebay and buy one for $50-$100.00 US!

We sold all ours to good customers at regular cover price, not into pyrite at our store. Got some more in today and helped out some of those we put on a list who wanted the comic. Same deal, cover price.

I have fifty more coming where I am PAYING what I am selling them now for , so those will cost folks a bit more. I figure it is always wise to support the customers who shop with us weekly and give them what they need at a reasonable price. Later the speculators can pay us more as will be necessary.
A second print is coming with a different cover too. That should make folks happy as well. The original first printing came with two differing covers too, so some folks bought both covers making the issue dry up even faster.
While it is all interesting, I wish Marvel had at least taken care of the extra publicity they knew it would get by telling us in the trenches so we could have prepared better.
Comics is fine fun when ya can get them to sell and read!

Our Civil War Memorial:

Hey, anyone seen 300 yet? Our staff went opening night and it did not disappoint! Like a Frazetta painting come to life, and visually so close to the graphic novel too!
If you like savage combat movies, then this is the movie for you!
Not for the kiddies

I didn't know that last part! Cool! Those guys have a real love of the genre. Funny, Rodriguez has embrace digital movie cameras too, even though he still loves the old stuff. He is a modern Wunderkind! No Ludite in him!

Digital is the way of the future. It's a lot cheaper, easier to edit, easier to add digital effects to, and so forth. Cheap straight to DVD digital can still suck though. I think it's awesome that they can shoot digitally and degrade it to look like old 16MM.

I hear ya bro.
Digital is simply a tool, the person behind it is what matters.
I spent fifteen hour last week restoring one sixty year old photo. The old contact print was all that survived, but I have given it new life thanks to digital.

Cool story too, I had a small scan of the print on my website and a woman found it. She contacted me and said she was the little girl in the photo some sixty years ago! Cool ! He aunt then contacted me too and spoke of another photo I had of her relatives and mine together on the website. Then she said SHE was also in the first photo photo with her niece. She is now 87 and loving her old age on the computer.

It is just so cool how these little PCs have changed the world, and forever too. Well, until a time Beyond Thunderdome, but' that's another thread

So I drove a couple hundred miles last week, got the original 3" x 2" print from my cousin, got home, figured out the best scanning scheme and began the retouching marathon.

My grandfather is the pilot in the window, he ran tours to Boson Light from our family marina for thirty years. My dad is dark in the other window. His sister , my aunt Ann is the blonde in the back. A family business. Check out the life jackets ( NOT!). I figure they must have had a few.............only what, seventeen people on board!

Here are the results of my latest digital foray. Sorry to hijack the thread, we'll get back to movies soon, trust me!

Orig small scan:

If you want to really see where fifteen hours went, click "Original" under these two links and see real detail . They are sized for a thirty inch screen or larger ( And still resized smaller than the original two gig file I worked on ). You can see some of their eyeballs and definitely two cigars!

Back to Grindhouse...

From the ratings controversy link:

"In one scene, a cute, topless girl is roughly tied down on a table by evil female Nazi experimenters who begin draining her blood and, as she screams in agony, they brand her like livestock with a coal-hot steel swastika," our source said. "And every girl in the Nazi concentration camp is topless."

Another trailer, directed by Eli Roth, of "Hostel" fame, is called "Thanksgiving," in which a town's celebration of Turkey Day is interrupted by a mad slasher.

"There's a part where Jordan Ladd [daughter of Cheryl Ladd of 'Charlie's Angels'] is in a car with her boyfriend and giving him [oral sex] when she lovingly reaches to stroke his hair and discovers his neck is just a bloody stump - some maniac had just cut off his head while she was in the act."

Later, a frisky cheerleader climbs onto a trampoline and begins stripping naked as she jumps up and down until she does a split and her skirt blows up without panties underneath. "You get the full 'Britney Spears-getting-out-of-the-limo view,' " our source says. Another jolting scene shows a grossly obese man chewing on a baby.

How much of these moviegoers will end up seeing is anybody's guess. "Some cuts definitely will have to be made. There's no question," conceded one studio insider. A Dimension rep declined comment. "

Sounds like several fine movies in one!

We went to see Grindhouse. The first one was GREAT! Loved all the grainyness and crazy ads, the mood was perfect. Then the next one - the one I wanted to see -- it went on, and on, and on, with inane girl chatter - and we just about died waiting for it to get going. Finally, when I became completely confused and still no car chase just a different bunch of silly girls, we got up and left. Hubby was going stir crazy listening to it. The timeline confused me - who were the second set of girls - was he working at the movie lot - never figured it out.

Anyway, on the Independent Film Channel, Fridays at midnight, they are having "grindhouse" films. I don't consider them real grindhouse - saw Polyester last week. What about this week's film, it's Bandits vs Samurai Squadron. Worth a watch?
