A long time ago at a drive in theater. Nice early apearance by Sly Stalone.

 

I wish I could have seen it in the theater. I was born like 15-20 years too late. I missed out on most of my favorites in the theaters and IMO all the stuff that comes out now is mostly crap.

I don`t know if it`s good or bad that I`m old enough to remeber the drive in here in town. Fortunately we still have an original 30`s era big screen theatre.

I already had all of them on VHS but nothing new that is good has coming so I might as well replace all the old tapes. It's a great time for it because all the films I love that weren't on DVD like ten years ago are being released. I praise the companies that realized there are guys like me who's cinema taste strays from the norm and are seeking out great classics for release.

 

I like the Criterion Collection releases.I have the Criterion version of Terry Gillam's Brazil...to my knowledge it is the only release to have the director's cut,the way Terry wanted it released.He fought a long battle with the studio about it.His version is more bleak and doesn't have the "happy ending".

 

I just won an unopened Barrel release on Last House on Dead End Street and an unopened 2 disk limited edition Driller Killer on ebay. More grindhouse classics for the collection.

 

I just got Patton on DVD. I wore out my VHS tape.

 

I've never seen it. I've heard it's a good film. It has to be if you wore out the tape. That's partially why I'm replacing all my tapes.

 

I've never seen a happy ending version. Was this some theatrical cut made for us "Happy" people in the US?
I went to the theater and saw one that ended with him in the chair and the reality being the happy ending we just saw really only took place in his mind. Don't tell me that somewhere they took off the last few minutes and the fantasy sequence was the last scene in some version of the movie?

I do have the Criterion box set but have never opened it. Perhaps it is time, but now I'm selling off stuff like that while it has value as soon as the HD versions are announced.

I tried watching Big Trouble In Little China today, it was the anamorphic wide screen DVD double disc set. It just looked awful on my set, so I'll wait for a remastered HD version. I'm no longer wasting time on inferior products when I don't have to. Some Standard Definition DVDs look fine. Many do not, and I've seen some where the VHS seemed preferable.

We have maybe seven thousand movies and such, so at this stage of the game I may as well be picky. I've saeen a lot on smaller screens and really want the theater experience in the home now. 27" sets just do nothing for me.
