OMG! Reccomend me a new dog.
OMG! Reccomend me a new dog.
OK, I love dogs. No cats please. I haven't had a dog since '01, and she was my best freind buddy... A black lab. I like having a "real dog" but the wif and kids want something smaller...
OK, I came from the pickuptruck world where cars were "just cars" and we had real dogs in our trucks.
Those days are sorta gone, I have the SS now. (the turbo helps relieve some of the pain of driving just a car).
Anyway, I don't miss some things, hair... everywhere, dog poop everywhere... finding dog sitters... etc.
I miss the absolute love and affection of your dog. The automatic cleanup of any food item that hits the floor, and with two boys, that is an attractive option.
I'm hearing basset hound, beagle, yada yada yo...
Good mid-size dog that's still "manly" and can go on the boat fishing.
Suggestions???

Here`s a pic of my Sheltie Carmel this is my 7th dog since 1972 and one my best ones yet.I have had dogs from 10lbs-two 160lb Newfoundland dogs now if you want too see a mess of crap to clean up get yourself 2 of them,I had them just over 10 years.
I went 7 years with out a dog then one day last fall I just had to get one.I had see a Sheltie last summer and like the look and size. The females are around 15-20lbs and males 25-30lbs.She goes every where and is getting better as she is near 1 year old now and starting to stop all that puppy stuff.
I have not gone out in my boat yet with her but she has her life jacket all ready.
1st pic is last Oct. 2nd pic was last week.My wife always wanted a Yorkie but now she changed her mind after a year with the Sheltie. So that may have been the best part not having to listen to a yappy Yorkie for the next 15 years.

before getting a dog think about what the breed is ment to do i.e. hunt, hurd, retriever, my experience hunting dogs if they get out they tend to wander off, retiever love water, hurding dogs tend to be nippy with children not really bitting just trying to get them to go where they want them to. I have a 7 lb. shih tzu, chic. mix who is very smart. Hope that helps.
well Jeff I am a huge fan of Dogs the bigger the better My parents have my BlackLab his nams same he is a great dog so I feel ya on the lab love. I had Sam(my lab) for a few years and my parents and myself had a Golden Retriver when I was growing up and she was family not just a pet but when she pastr on 14 years old. My dad took it ewaly hard and swar he would never own another dog ever. well a few years later my wife and I had to move into a rental house and the owner said no dogs no cat not even a fish. So I begged my parents to watch him for me untill I found a new place to live. They said that they would try but didnt want another animal around since Jenny (our Golden)past on needless to say this is about 6 years latter so they take sam in for me to live with them. low and behold I find a new place we bought a house but it needed lots of work befor we could move in so about 3 months later we get ready to move and I pick up Sam and take him home everything is great so I thought My mom calls and says that my dad (the toughest SOB I know) is drying over the sink he says he just has something in his eye hahaha oh and hes a US MARINE ok tough guy so you have something in you eye. So I ask if he would like to keep Sam since we put in hard wood floors we just cant have a dog ya thats its so they take him and still have him and hes goes everywere they go even the golf course hes there new kid.LOL

I've always wanted a border collie, but I don't have a big yard, and they really need room to run. I also love siberian huskies, but I would think it would be way too warm where I live for one to be happy, plus they get rather big.

I'd love to get a dog but being in a townhome and no yard I don't think it is fair...suppose a small dog would be ok....I know you said no cats but that is probably what I will get...I love them as equally
And as far as a dog having to be "manly".... that is all BS imo...I'd love anything from a Yorkie to an Irish wolfhound...the day I need a certain type of dog to confirm my "manliness" is the day I might as well put my jewels in a ziplock bag and check out...not saying that to anyone in particular, just that I hear it all the time "get a real dog"...I ask them what kind of dog do they have and 9 times out of 10 "oh I don't have one but if I had one it would be a big one" Oh ok
I'd love to have a Chihuahua..I think they are awesome
