I ain't got it....... and I'm glad I don't.

Thanks for the facts, 843...... I still don't trust this kind of tracking and I'm not a criminal. I still think GM could effect warranty if collected data proved modifications to the vehicle or even going to the drag strip on Saturday evening......... Maybe that's their right to do so, but it's creepy.

And maybe delete some data that would prove a defect existed? Sorry, I can't resist conspiracy theorizing. I'm still all GM. all the time.

IMO way too much ado about nothing. What they want from you they can get one way or another with or without Onstar. To kill the service, which is overall a good one if you desire to pay for the service, is way over reacting.

But it's your car so do as you feel necessary. But the black helicopters are not the reason to do away with it or disable it. If you feel that need better get rid of your cell phone, XM/Sirrius radio, pager, pc, tablet,etc.. Far more tracing with them than Onstar right now.

He just gave you the short list of what they trac. When you use your CC,DC use a check it's all the same. What you buy on line, what forums you go to on line. If your on this site it can & is traced.

From a member on the other site on the same subject. Note the bold area:

The black box is recording permanently - but it is a loop - it records
specific data for a specified time and then overwriting the data again.
This will be more minutes than seconds. Technically it is easy to
record hours or days, that is more a question of cost.

Insurances and police over here use them on chain-reaction-collision to
find out the question of fault.

If somebody has stopped already and then hit from the back and be
pushed on the car in front can read in the datarecorder f.e.

If you go ahead driving after an accident this data gets lost within minutes because it will be overwritten. There exist already datarecorders for various reasons which record 24 hours and more.

Depending on the quantity of data that is collected and with the low price of Flash- Memories i would not wonder if we get a new generation of data recorders which will record longer times. But this data recording always stays in your car ! It is send nowhere !

And if the data is collected by the police in case of an accident it can be used against you but also to prove your innocence.

Blackboxes are definitely useful for various reasons and can not be
compared with the OnStar service.

OnStar disconnect?

Probably an old topic that has been beaten to death on here but I've never run across it so I'll post up.
In light of Sen. Schumer's recent accusation, has anyone disconnected/disabled their OnStar and care to tell me how?

I found this but haven't decided on anything yet.

Thanks,

It amazes me how so many get worked up over Onstar and still post all their dirt on Facebook?

Things like this are not great but there are so many other ways they track and watch you that most do not know it is crazy. It should be the things you don't know that you should fear.

I know just what I can find on my own on people it is amazing. Just think of someone who can exploit the system.

Anymore about the only people hard to track are the Amish.
