Yes it is sad that people forget. It was 67 years ago that the Japanese attacked us at Pearl Harbor, and people are treating it like just another day. What is even worse is that 9-11 was only 7 years ago and people are starting to forget that as well. The problem is that people today don't think about the sacrifices others have made, only things that have impacted them like there bus being late or what type of starbucks they are gonna have today. It really shows the decline of our nation and makes me sad to think about it.
I have also placed my flag at half staff and I bet by the end of the day several of my neighbors will ask why it is that way.

End of rant!

Every year one of our ships gets underway and circumnavigates Ford Island in remembrance. This year it is the USS Chung Hoon.

This is their website:

For those that are not familiar with the events of Dec. 7, 1941, you can find a copy of President Franklin Roosevelt's Pearl Harbor Speech here.

For twenty years I have served in the military. The first 18 was spent as a Navy Corpsman serving with the Marines, the last two I have spent training future Navy Corpsman and Army Medics in the practice of Combat Medicine. It is disturbing yet not uncommon to find junior Sailors, Marines, and Soldiers who do not know the significance of today's date. Let us not forget that Pearl Harbor was not the only target that day, just the most deadly.

My prayers today are for all that have died, those that have served, those that are serving, and for those that will one day carry on when no one cares.

Many thanks for those that gave their lives for the fredom that we still have. For those to young to remember, we used to have many more fredoms than we have today so enjoy the ones we still do have. As the world keeps getting smaller and smaller people keep trying to take more of them away. Please remember FREDOM is NOT FREE. My prayers go out to the families that have given so much in defending the USA.

What REALLY pissses me off and I truly do not intend to offend anyone by saying this: Wht the hell does the country "shut down" for MLK day, yet on VETERAN'S DAY, nada???? If it weren't for the Vets, MLK wouldn't have been allowed to stand freely on that podium....

My Flag is ALWAYS flying, but have no way of lowering to half staff. But those will be remembered, as well as honored.

Thank you to all of the WWII vets. You are not forgotten.
WOW, I was thinking the same thing when I read the 1st post, but wondered if it was worth the flack to post?
Thanks for saying what a lot of are thinking, and THANK YOU from me to all who served, or are serving our great nation!

It is good to see some of those pics that some of you included. If I ever get to Hawaii, Pearl Harbor is top on my list to visit!!
