Which Pres.canidate Is Going To Push For More Refinerys Gets My Vote!!
As for Ms. Sheehan, I'm glad for her that she's finally found some redemption and is starting to heal. She's finally figured out that all those politicians and pundits were just pretending to care and riding her son's corpse like Seabiscuit to a guaranteed lifetime paycheck and health care. The one thing I agree with her about is that for the most part this country does not care about her son's sacrifice more than they care about who won American Idol. Those who don't have a relative or friend in the military have had to sacrifice nothing in this war except for a couple more dollars a gallon in gas. Our soldiers are the ones rationing food and water in this war--not us--and they have volunteered to lay down that sacrifice and bear any cost for liberty so that we can be free to cash in on their blood again.
Hey, I didn't buy my car to speed or race in, so if I had the chance, I'd plop a battery in it and make it last FOREVER. Electric cars last forever, right?? And politically correct and all that jazz... But no way could my hubby travel down that freeway for an hour twice a day on a battery and I don't think they even go fast enough do they? No, we gotta have gas until they think of something better.
Refineries, oil, duh... I am clueless, just can't shut up.

Then the next President better not have his retirement savings invested in any private or public investment pool. Every person--teachers, physicians, police officers, factory workers--ANYONE who has ANY kind of investment account has money in BigOil or one of their subsidiaries. It's the hottest and most profitable investment in years right now. ANY investment adviser or fund manager would be an absolute FOOL to not invest in oil products right now.

Hey, Goose...
I was just going to comment on your post before you edited it much shorter...
You said something about "just packing up and leaving", I think.
Well, as someone who is a Vietnam vet, all I can say is that it worked there, after over 50,000 U.S. soldiers died for a questionable cause put forth by our government that was going, and never would go, anywhere. Why??? The government evidently didn't learn from that fiasco and seems determined to repeat it, with many more lives lost for a "cause" that has no apparent resolution. The phrase "history repeats itself" comes to mind.
War is a terrible thing, and at my age (60) I'm convinced that the biggest "enemy" for the average person in their own country is their own government trying to get the populace to believe in their agenda. The best thing to promote World Peace in most cases would be for the people to tell their government to go F themselves, and that would apply to any country. War is never in the best interests of the populace, just the powers.
Oh, and gas prices??? Why would any of the big oil companies want to invest a fortune to build new refineries to meet capacity needs, when the end result would only be lower profits?? That's simple business.... Good for us, but, unfortunately, bad for them.
Just a few thoughts before dinner......

I am a veteran and my son is serving now,so please let me clarify my feelings on Ms.Sheehan...I don't really care anything about her but I think she is right on one item she touched on in her long overdue "farewell letter".The average American cares more about American Idol than they care about the war on terror. The average person better open their eyes to what is going on in these Muslim countries. This ongoing war on terror will last far longer than any resolution that may come about in Iraq and Afghanistan.I think we will be involved in this ongoing conflict as long as there are children being born into hatred and taught the same whose sole desire is to kill all infidels both there and here.I am convinced that if they could have murdered 2 million innocents on 9/11 instead of thousands they would have. And until they overcome their tribal hatred for each other over there they will continue to slaughter each other as well.That...is just my opinion anyhow.HB
Honest, I agree with the points you made.
I've always thought that politics can NEVER battle hatred that has been instilled for centuries. Most of what is going on in Iraq, would continue even if we pulled all our troops tomorrow because there is such hatred even among the different sects of Muslims. Until THEY want peace, there will be NO peace. Sometimes we need to let other countries work things out for themselves. We did what our stated goal was, we displaced Saddam Hussien and given democracy a chance. More than that and we would be forcing our beliefs on others.

Our stated goal wasn`t to displace Saddam, it was to get him to turn over the WMD`S that we sold/gave him, and we were sure they were still there, because he couldn`t have used them if they were buried during the first conflict, which was about saving face after telling him it was ok to go into Saudi Arabia.
Yeah Joe...I looked at what I wrote and thought better of it... I really didn't want stuff to get heated in here so I cut some of my comments out.
You won't find a bigger admirer of our VFW's than this Goose right here..thank you and Honest and every other Vet out there for doing what you did/do.
imho this war is a bit different than Vietnam as far as the enemy we are faced with.....Ho Chi wasn't hellbent on destroying our way of life..we didn't have to worry about the Viet Cong coming over here and blowing themselves up for no other reason than to become a martyr.....this is a much different war..unlike one we have ever fought before and HB nailed it. Let's face it Bin Laden and his ilk don't give a rat's ass if you are black, white, Asian, Latino, gay, straight, Liberal, conservative Dem, Republican, etc...all they know is that their only goal is to kill and destroy every single American and our way of life. And they won't stop until they win...period. I'm not saying we need to stay there until there is total harmony(agreed never will be) but leaving now isn't an option in my opinion (my opinion..let me say again)
Not an easy situation..no easy answers
I did not know she had a farewell letter.. I doubt I'll read it but maybe I will.
I just had 2 people I know very well come back from overseas..one based outside of Falljah and the other was in Bagram. Both feel very proud and felt like they were making a difference in peoples lives. That means a lot to a serviceman.
BB- You mean Kuwait right?
