Anyone getting ready or have renewed with the Gold Star Real ID Driver license ?

Just wondering as I'll be renewing not too distant future. Appreciate any input.

I read some good, & I read some bad (naturally)..

 

I got mine last year. You will need your actual SS card, they won't accept a picture of it. I thought I had mine, I was wrong, but I happened to have my old Medicare card with SS number the lady accepted that.
The people at the DMV have some latitude in what they accept. It was a lot easier than expected.

 

I can't get one... No birth certificate. I had everything else. (SS card, proof of address, etc.) I have an original, notarized, birth registration document, but that's not good enough.... without that actual birth certificate I'm obviously a foreign born terrorist.

 

The only proof that my father had was that Congress made him a commissioned officer, and they don't make mistakes. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, his father got a letter from his mother claiming he was born in "Detroit". He lived his young years in London.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong.
What I have read is by getting this licence upgrade it's easier to fly in the US.

 

Without this ID you can't board a commercial airplane or enter a federal building. In some states you wouldn't be able to vote.

 

Yep, got mine with a birth certificate and SS card. Truckers need it to enter ports.

 

I applied on line for mine and the wife's by requesting a replacement for a lost driver license, came in the mail two weeks later with "star" on it.

I am renewing my passport and there is an option for a passport card. Does anyone know if that will work in place of the real ID?
