I'm afraid that Gomer and Opie are the only regulars from the show left.

Rest in Peace Andy, to paraphrase a line from "What it was, was football"....What you were, was wonderful.

I posted a You Tube link to the 'Football' routine on FB this A.M.

Feeling a bit sad for myself about Andy's passing, because when it aired originally, our family didn't watch The Andy Griffith Show. Thinking back, it may have had something to do with the image the show created. Growing up in suburban west Los Angeles was a far cry from Mayberry. The show debuted in October of 1960, when I was 9, and lasted in first-run until 1968, my junior year of high school. I did see a few shows now and then, but I really feel like I've missed a big part of childhood.

Grew up watching Andy and Barney. Have probably seen every show several times over the years.

After I made that statement, I started thinking which caused me to do a little more research. Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), Elinor Donahue (Ellie Walker), Maggie Peterson (Charlene Darling), Jack Burns (Warren Ferguson), and Clint Howard (Ron Howard's brother who played Leon, the kid eating a sandwich) are also still with us. Others who were not regulars but were notable in their appearance in the show: Arlene Golonka (Millie Huchins), James Best (Jim Lindsey - guitar player), Bernard Fox (Malcolm Merriweather), Rodney Dillard and Roy Webb (Rodney and Roy Darling - members of 'The Darlings' band) are also still alive.

Andy Griffith

Andy and Barney are now policing Mayberry heaven.

I think Andy is the kind of guy that would have liked an HHR.
