More than a badge, a real '86 El Camino SS will have the same front clip as the Monte Carlo SS along with a "performance" L-69 305 V-8 putting out 190 bhp. Plus an SS specific interior and suspension tuning, they were very nice, and I've been kicking myself in the butt for 20+ years for not buying a 4,500 mile one owner unit when I had the chance.
You just had to do that ,didn't you. That's how I got a HHR SS was inquiring about tires before I bought one. The guy says which model, I say "aren't they all the same ?" The rest is history. So how hard is it to find, the others don't compare to this one ?
Really nice ones are pretty thin on the ground Sam, I've been looking for a nice unmolested one for the last five years, no luck so far. The seem to come in three varieties, beat to heck, customized a la redneck, or utterly pristine with an owner who expects to get six figures for a $20k truck.
If you really want one, keep looking, you'll find a nice one but it will take some time.

Heading in to the Dealer one more time before 48000 I'm trying to get them to fix what ever is causing the small clunk in the steering. It happens when you switch directions, and is worse in reverse. It has gradually getting worse and I don't have a clue what part is going bad. I feel that a system developed by GMPD tested at Nurburgring should not clunk, my dealer seems to think it's fine.
Got back they sent me around with the smart guy (technician) so he could see and feel . Talked with the Manager and we have waived the mileage problem and set up to give it to them next Wednesday, so they can use their Chassis ears on it to find the culprit. So they didn't tell me I'm crazy just go away like I thought they would. If Chevy builds anything else I want to own I would do business with Jet Chevrolet again.
This made me laugh. The guy who used to sit next to me had this happen to him, and he ended up buying one the VERY few Solstice GXP hardtops built in 2009. I told him that with it being red, a manual, and the turbo, it was golden. And, he USED to think all Solstices were the same... He ended up going to WI to pick it up - on a cash-for-clunkers deal yet! He still has the car, and I'm the jealous one. Sometimes regret is worse than getting more information.
