Sharing my weight loss story

I just want to share my weight loss story with the wonderful people on this forum...

On April 8th 2012, I got on scale for the first time in a long time...I seen 304.4lbs and my jaw nearly hit the floor. I have always been a larger than normal person considering my height(6'4''), and have never been "skinny" by any means. To be honest I was expecting to be 270 lbs or so when I stepped on the scale.

SO, I told myself that day, I would lose 50lbs by the time I went on my vacation(August 19th very soon). So for the last 4+ months I have been on a 1900 calorie per day diet with proper eating habits, including 8 or more cups of water per day, eating a nutricious breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up, and no meals larger than 500 calories to boost metabolism. with 2-3 workouts per week, consisting of jogging, walking, some weight lifting, and some bike riding, I was burning some serious calories too.

Well to my surprise this morning, I woke up and weighed myself(I weigh myself once per week on sunday morning) and seen 254.4. Exactly 50 lbs lost in 18 weeks. I hit my goal with one week to spare, which has me in a great mood today.

It wasn't as easy as it sounded, because I did hit a few bumps along the road. The human body does some funny things when you deny it what its used to. I lost 10 lbs in the first 12 days when I started the life change(diets are temporary). But things slowed down a bit and I did hit a plateau a few times during the last 4 months. The single biggest thing I did was to stay focused on what I was doing day to day. I'm on a 1.5-2.0 pounds per week lost for the last 8-10 weeks or so. Another thing I learned was to NOT weigh myself every day. It messed with my head for a few weeks and then I decided that it was too much. the human body under normal activity can fluctuate 4-5lbs per day.

So today I set a new goal of getting myself down to 234.4 lbs(70 lbs lost) by January 1st 2013. this goal allows me to lose a "healthy" amount of weight. I must lose 1 pound per week from now until the new year to reach my goal.

Does anybody else have a similar story? I am proud to say that I have inspired my brother, my father, my sister in law, and 2 friends to eat healthier and lose a few pounds.

Good for you brother.. I was in the same boat 6'4" in high school I was 235lbs. Back in 2008 I got on the scale and I was 300lbs.. Scared the crap out of me (cause I was about to be a dad).. I went on a modified diet (No Soda, and cut all my sugars) I went from 300lbs to 252lbs and have kept it off for the past 3+ years. I just watch what I eat and my wife and I adapted to a healthier lifestyle to show my 3 year old daughter a good example.

Keep up with the work and don't let a setback be a fall back!!!

its more about setting the right priorities, like you said, for your child.... I still want to be around someday for children, and grandchildren...Thats why I say its not a diet, Its a lifestyle change

Awesome. Congrats to both of you on your achievement!

Now. Remember to include a regular workout or exercise program to keep the "new you" in shape. (always consult your Dr. first)

Once again,

I'm 6'5" all throughout high school and college I was an offensive lineman. I tipped the scales at around 320 on high school and about 340 in college. . I married in 2003 and shot up to about 360 lbs. In 2008 I stayed very ill with severe stomach problems. In August of 08 I was hospitalized with a ruptured ulcer. I was in for 2 Weeks nearly bled to death, I received 16 pints over 4 days of blood. After I got out in the beginning of September I was 352. I decided I wanted to live healthy and I cut myself to 1500 calories a day, no fried Food, no pop, lots of veggies and fruit. I started walking then jogging then running daily, plus cardio and weights. By Christmas of 2008 I was 250 losing 100 lbs in 4 months. Then over the next year I lost another 75 lbs finally ending up at 175 for a total weight loss of 185 lbs. I'm now at 205 because at my height I was too thin at 175 lbs. It's been 3 yrs and I feel younger than I did in my early 20s
