"The Slasher!!"

I happened to watch this strange documentary on the IFC Channel yesterday. I was wondering if anyone else might have seen it? It isn't a murder mystery like the name implies. It's about this guy from California, and some of his cronies, that apparently hire out to various car dealers around the country(This time it was a Toyota dealer in Memphis) and stage these "Super" price cutting sales over 3 or 4 day period and then just leave. It's interesting to see all the BS and hype they use to unload cars on some of the unsuspecting public. Like having one Junker that they'll sell each day for $88.00! This main character is "The Slasher" because he runs around the lot, like a nut, screaming and "slashing prices"! I never saw such a hyper person in my life! He'd make a cup of coffee nervous!!

My wife used to work at a car dealership they actually used one of those companies to come in and do the sales. I talked to the salesmen some times to find out how it worked, they said they were on the road about 320 days a year doing the sales.

The regular dealership sales people hate these guys because they dont get any commissions durring these sales and the week before no one will buy beccause they are wating for the sales.

According to my wife, they had a base price of around ten thousand dollars to come do the sales. They guaranteed that a certain number of cars would sell and they had to deliver. they had all sorts of dishonest tactics like advertising that the dealership had used bentley's, porche, bmw, etc and when the people got there they would have used pontiacs, buicks and dodges.
They also only promise that they will sell a set number of cars, not how much proffit will be made, usually they sold the used cars at a break even. or very little proffit. I saw one of the salesmen buy 10 cars himself to put on his personal lot because they were deals.

The dealerships get realy screwed in these because the traveling salesmen dont care about the proffit the dealership makes and dont have to say they dont work for the dealership and they make all these promises to the customer that are to be delivered the next week,(after they are gone). It gives the delaership a realy bad name. Also they usually require that the dealership signs on for a mandatory amount of these sales in a year before they will agree to do it. That way a dealership cant catch on early and not use them again.

Her dealership signed on with 3 of those companies before they had one come in and do a "sale" and it came back to bite them BAD. Each one of the companies wanted 4 sales in the next year. which meant that they had to do one huge sale per month for a year, each one they lost money on.
