Snow Time!

So.... we are getting a bad storm... Our tires are overly terrible but need replacing, has to wait til Jan. My first winter in this car... and type of car. My last car, a PT Cruiser *shudders* was beyond horrible, but I could manage.

I had to drive home from my parents who live on bad back roads.. barely got our HHR up the first hill after leaving the farm, it's a bad hill with a fork at the bottom... you hit the hill too fast from my parent's road & you will slide off the huge drop off on the left... hit it too slow & you loose all momentum on the curve to the right. I made it, up, but only after about 5 min of spinning, sliding back and forth and so forth. Found I have to turn Traction Control off a lot in some areas on the back roads and in town.

I can handle anything if given time and space... heck, I drove a Geo Metro, Tempo, Taurus, and Cruiser in several severe blizzards... I just worry other drivers collecting me in their mess like what happened to my friend's husband. (Slid through a stop sign & Earl couldn't avoid him, totaled truck & trip to ER)

In town I had an ESC warning??? just after Traction control. Can someone explain?

So what is your winter experiences so far this year?

My HHR Panel is safely tucked away in a storage shed for the winter, my PT Cruiser does all the winter driving for us, and it's real good on ice and snow. Up in this God Forsaken part of the world, anyone who lives very far out in the country needs a 4X4 if you need to be able to get around.
I'm not looking forward to my trip to Chicago tomorrow, the first time in over two years I'm going down with just a bare chassie behind me, not even a box, much less a load to help with traction.
