Time to go

I Did A Forum Check For My Jeep, Guess What....I'm NOT Alone With This Dilema! Thing Is They All Said The Same I Did, & That It Is Pricey To Remedy..Just For The Option To Push A Silly Button To Lock/Unlock Your Vehicle. If It Is The Pricey Part, I Am Going 'Old School' And Unlocking With The Key & Locking By Pushing The Door-Button Lock.

If I Were Better At Putting Things Back Together The Way They Should & Without Making Things Worse, I Would Take The Door Panel Off & Have A Look At The Module To See If There Is A Loose Wire, Or An Antenna, Or Something. But I Am NOT The Type Than Can Take Apart & Reassemble Without Causing More Damage.

The Key Fobs For My Jeep Are In Sending Good Signal Strength, (I Had Them Tested) But I Have To be In Front On The Passenger Side About 2 Feet Away For Them to Work & That Is If They Decide To. What Could Possibly Cause That? I Was At A Jeep Dealership That Told Me It Is A Door Module That Costs About $315 Plus An Hour's Labor To Put It In, & I Don't Even Know If That Includes The Reprogramming!
I would, however, check with another Jeep dealership before I sunk the $400 in the thing. For that price I'd get a second opinion. In my case, I don't even think about it anymore. The Jeep has been relegated to hauling the trailers and for me doing some running during the day.

I looked on a jeep forum, & found a few others that had the same problem. I got another estimate, & it all comes down to either a loose antenna wire, some other wire, or connection for still the $70+ dollars an hour TO it being the module which is about $320 +/- Along with the $70+/hour + reprogramming the fobs and module (forgot that amount, I was still trying to fathom the $320 just for the part.)
Is it REALLY worth it to have a remote to lock/unlock a vehicle that you must be closer than 30 feet to use anyway? It could cost from $70-$400 to find out.
What does everybody think? Yes or No?

Before the HHR, none of my vehicles had remotes, but they also had an available key lock on both sides and the trunk. I was able to survive just fine. I use it all the time now, but would it be worth that kind of money to add or replace? Not to me it wouldn't.

Thanks for your advice. I just posted that very question in the forum to see what the general consensus would be. I am sure Everybody would tell me I am nuts to blow $400+ on being to lazy to open with the key, since I would need to be in that approximate range anyway. I should just go 'old school' and use the key to unlock the door. (That darn HHR spoiled me with the remote starter & working fobs that had great distance & signal strength!)
