I was reading some articles from Europe today over lunch and saw this headlines and thought I'd take a look.

Subaru has today released information about its new World's First Boxer Diesel passenger car - the Legacy Sports Tourer ad Outback models will be the first in the Subaru model range to get the Boxer engine. The 2.0-litre engine develops 150bhp and 258lb ft torque and boasts class-leading fuel economy and low emissions. The Sports Tourer returns almost 50mpg with 151g/km CO2, yet reaches 62mph in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 126mph. Subaru claim this is one of the quietest diesels, thanks to its design, which reduces vibration and engine noise to provide exceptional levels of refinement, rigidity and throttle response. The range goes on sale from February 2008 priced from £19,995.
Check out our First Drive of the Legacy Boxer Diesel tomorrow for more information.
I'm going to be very interested in reading the first drive article tomorrow. This engine seems pretty incredible with its 258lb feet of torque coming from a 2.0L engine and being naturally aspirated. With 50mpg (assuming this is UK gallons that converts to 41mpg US gallons) that would sure cut down on fuel costs. I'd love to see something like this in North America (or at least in Canada) and with Subaru's famed 4 wheel drive systems with thing would be wicked.
