Question Turkey Day Plans

Can you believe Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away So what does everyone have planned?

We are not doing anything big on Turkey Day itself but on Black Friday the whole family (my side) is going out to eat. On Saturday we leave for Sandusky, Ohio. Taking the nephew and nieces to Great Wolf Lodge for a couple days for an early Christmas present They should really enjoy the waterpark.

I do all the cooking at the Salas-compound. Just got my 20 lb bird yesterday (in the freezer), will get all the veggies the day I cook. I use a roaster for mine--cook breast side down for 2/3's of the time so all the juices stay there, then turn over to let it crisp and brown. Don't stuff the bird--stuffing on the side. I make all the sides as well (blue cheese mashed potatoes, cornbread, etc.), couple of bottles of wine (pinot goes quite well with turkey!), someone brings dessert. Will make a ham if someone wants

I do my cooking on Weds. evening as I serve it buffet style. Usually it is Sis and BIL, Niece and the brother and nephew (our proud Army Vets!) and whoever else wants to stop by. It is usually a nice day here and we sit outside.

Good times!

No shopping--have final papers to write. Probably a good thing.

Christmas is usually a turkey as well, and tamales!

up to michigan I go and a double dose of turkey. To south lyon for one side of the family and then in my hometown for the other side.

I don't cook anything, but for anyone looking to cook a turkey. My dad cooks his in a bag, like a special kind of something, and it speeds up your cooking and keeps all the juices in. Cuts the time time down to like 3 hours or less. Or the other way is we cut all the meat off the turkey in huge chunks, and throw it all on the grill and marinating it, you can hook a pretty good sized turkey in like 15-20 min like that.

Big fan of turkey, potatoes, and rolls, so always a happy guy on t-day

Gonna fry up a couple of birds with all the trimmings for 12 - 15 folks, then head up
to the mountains for the long weekend.

Any SoCal members that want to make a road trip up to our place, contact me..

You would post this reminder on Friday the 13th!!

Never a dull moment at my MIL's house on T-Day. Hopefully this year won't be the same as last.

I fry turkeys for friends and family, I usually start frying turkeys on Monday before Thanksgiving and fry 3 or 4 days. Last year, I fried 22 turkeys. It just turns into kind of a party. We have been doing this for about 10 years. I make everyone a deal, I don't drink any beer and they don't mess with trying to fry a turkey. Something about 400 degree oil, beer and a big chunk of wet, cook meat is just a little more than I can say grace over.
