VJ day in Hawaii (video)

Got this from a friend who's Dad participated in this (unknowingly).

If anyone on this forum is old enough (not me) to have provided their service during the Big II,........THANK YOU. To those who had relatives (my Dad) that participated.....I thank them.

Pay particular attention to the last quotation after watching the video of the original 16 MM. How true it is.....the Greatest Generation.

So cool! My Grandpa Joe was there that day I'm pretty sure, he was assigned to Fleet Operations in Hawaii after recovering from injuries and burns aboard the Lexington CV-2.

They truly were the Greatest Generation, we owe them everything, and we should never forget their service and bravery.

That's Mom and Dad's generation...... Mom stayed here having my oldest Sister while Dad shipped off hopping islands, didn't see his daughter until she was 4 or 6 months old. (something like that) He was on Okinawa when the Japanese surrendered, getting ready for an invasion of Japan. He actually got to Japan in mid October, 1945...... (not sure if that was called an "occupation force" at that time or not, but it was considered "occupation duty") He never saw fighting as he was in the Corp of Engineers, building roads/bridges/etc. so he saw a lot of aftermath of fighting and several "air raids" that proved fruitless...... Dad's still here, Mom passed a few years ago, but yeah.... they are the Greatest Generation. Thanks Dad!

(not to take away from any of those who have served since and are serving now, but things were just different somehow back then)
