Good morning. My top choice for self-defense would be the:
Taurus 650 CIA 357 Magnum or one of the Taurus CIA models.

First off, I am a fan of revolvers for self-defense over autos. My reasoning is simple..I have seen many semi-autos jam and have strange problems. I've never seen a revolver jam in my lifetime. I also believe there is less maintenance in owning a revolver therefore less problems and if it came down to it it's much easier for a family member or friend to pick up and click it as opposed to a semi-auto jamming and you're out of luck.

Also I prefer the hammerless design as there is nothing to snag on then when pulling out the firearm and the bad guy cannot stick his hands between the hammer and pin if there is a struggle or it getting snagged on an article of clothing.

I like the .357 because you can use .38 if you feel .357 is too much so it's nice to be able to have that option. And nowadays there are many types of different rounds you can use in this gun. On a small gun like this I prefer to use .38 ammo mostly because the recoil is substantially less and it's easier for me to fire off my 2nd, 3rd, and so on shots and if I ever had to use it at night a lot of the short barrels will have quite a muzzle blast when using the .357 ammo. It'll blind you at night for a couple seconds which isn't good. Or you could just get one of the .38 CIA models, like I said I'm not sure what kind of person you are hehe. Some people think the .38 is weak, I don't. A well placed shot with a handgun you can control is much better than shooting a .40 or .45 and missing. They also make an ultra-lite CIA model if your into that.

Taurus revolvers are the best bang for your buck IMHO. I know quite a few of their models are available in black to match your HHR

Paul, I am on a waiting list for the new Ruger LCP in .380 auto. I finally got to shoot one and love it for it's size! The .380 is as small as I would consider, but the size and weight make it very attractive to me.

By the way, I was reading that there is a huge back log in Texas for the Concealed pistol licenses. They are now over 30 days beyond the maximum of 60 (90 days total) and over 45 days behind the maximum for renewals. They said it was probably because everyone was afraid of what the new president and his appointees would do

What caliber are you wanting? P85 was what? 9mm?

That's a sexy pistol for sure. There was just a recall on those a couple days ago.
Paul, You may want to avoid the ones with a serial number that starts with 370-xxxxx if you decide to purchase this one. By the way...lot of parts in this gun! *whispers*...revolver.

Most of those have already had the recall preformed on them. There is a mark on the hammer (can't remember what it is) if it has had the recall preformed.

Ruger is coming out in March with a new revolver for CC, but for the life of me I can't recall what it is. We either carry our Ruger SR9 or a Bersa 380. I like the Bersa, the only thing I will add is if you buy a extra Mag. go with the factory. We bought a 'generic" and it is OK if you only load 5 rounds.

Hmmmmm....3 bills.................. Not sure what that will get ya in God Bless
Texas but up this a way...........Well, sumthin' used or tiny. Save and then if and when you do, go with the 1911 frame in 45 caliber. Not "all" semi autos jam and are actually a breeze to field strip. Some people just don't do well with them I guess.
