My Dad gave me his 1969 International pickup when I got my license at 16. It had 168,000 miles on it when I got it. the bed of the truck was pretty much rusted off, we had 2 pieces of 2X4 stuck in the rear post holes of the sides of the bed and a piece of rope across it where the tail gate "used" to be, holding the sides of the bed on. One night I was driving down US-19 thru Palm Harbor, FL with my girlfriend with me, when I hit a big rough spot in the road and the entire left side of the bed fell off. I drug it about 100 yards down the road before I could get pulled over. We got out and picked it up, put it in the bed and went on...
AH... good times... LOL.

I posted before about my first car, my Dad gave me a 1961 Corvair 700 4 dr. automatic. He was the Auto shop teacher in High School and as a project, he aquired two wrecked Corvairs from a junk yard. He cut both in half and put the two good pieces together and made a good car out of it. I drove it for a year, then bought myself a 2 door 1963 Corvair Monza 4 speed. I forget what I paid, somewhere around $500.00 I believe, in 1970. First new vehicle, a 1978 Chevrolet Beauville Van. Tow vehicle for going Drag racing on the weekends. It was a $5000.00 loaded van then.
My first car was a 1966 Mustang (used in outstanding condition), bought it in 1970 for $500 and wish I still had it. Had the 289 with a 3-speed in the floor. My first new car was a Toyota Celica GT, 1976 and the purchase price was $5690 out the door, dont remember the year I bought it.
1974 Pinto Station Wagon. Paid $400. Not long after that I was driving down a gravel road and lost control trying to dodge a deer. Missed the deer, but hit the ditch and rolled it. Got out and pulled the fender out of the wheel and drove it for another 6 months. And believe it or not it didn't explode. Had to tie the rear hatch closed and the door didn't shut very well, but it was a tough little car.
