Alzonit...

I agree with you. My first house here was $16900. My HHR was about $20K.

Although housing here was considerably cheaper than Michigan which is were I came from. Paid $29900 there and sold it 2 years later for $33500 (to move here).

Pricey is relative to what someone makes. Pricey to someone working at Wal-Mart is going to be different to what a Lawyer is going to condsider to be pricey. Now value/cost is another subject. A million will buy you a palace in one location and in another may only be a ranch home. Real Estates famous words: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

$100-$150k might get you a shack in the ghetto of San Bernardino in California. The median price here in California is somewhere around $500k.

Only thing is...our newspaper has a section that reveals luxury homes built or sold over the past week. I have a hard time understanding why 2 people would need a house with 6000-8000 square feet, selling for 1.5-3.5 mil. Well maybe on second thought, some men and woman want to live together but NOT live together...if you know what I mean.
Right on about the ridiculous size of some new homes. We have some around here that are over 20,000 ft^2 (honest). Typical new nicer homes are 6000 ft^2. Trust me, many of these are going to be "white elephants" (remember that term?), and the kids that eventually inherit these from the older folks building them are going to have a very difficult time selling them in the future for near what they cost to build. There I go being practical though.

You peeps are gonna think I'm crazy. But over 750,000 is pricey by me. A 1400 sq ft with 3br 2 bath in crappy (gut it) condition on 50x100 lot goes for 400,000.

I agree with location-location-location. Rural are in central Mississippi 4 bed, 4.5 bath, 2800 sf house and 1525 sf detached garage on 6.18 acres appraises for $324,000. (built for $179,000). Same setup "in town" is over $500,000

Huh.

My 1423 sq ft house with a 1600 sq ft garage cost 89,900 in 96, now it wouldn't sell for 20,000- there's too many foreclosures going for under 20k here.

Depends on location. My boss's house is 5k sq ft, and was 500k, the house I intereviewed at the other day was 1.2 million and 7k+ sq ft. To me both are pricey and just not needed and to big.

But in all it depends on size of the family and where you live.
